This Saturday at Jazzfest was the worst festival experience of my life

I have been to music festivals all over the country and a couple internationally.
Saturday at Jazzfest was so overcrowded it was embarrassing. I was there for 3 hours and we barely saw any music. Even the smaller stages were completely overflowing. Bathroom lines took nearly an hour as well.
We got within what felt like a half-mile of Elton John stage 1 hour before showtime and didn't even attempt to go closer.
We got cheap tickets outside the gates from someone, thank god, because we just left.
I have been to Jazzfest Saturdays 4 times and nothing has ever compared to this. I was told it was because no one went to weekend before due to rain, but they REALLY need to cap the amount of tickets they sold. I think they should let half that many people be there at once. It had to be unsafe. I saw the EMS people not being able to move with people on stretchers that had passed out from heat.
I'll never go back on a Saturday again, thats for damn sure.

My family went Friday-Sunday and they said it wasn't even close. Said Saturday had easily twice as many people. They left with me.
And we aren't ornery old people. We're young, slightly intoxicated, music festival lovers. Saturday felt more like an extremely overcrowded county fair. It was absolutely awful.
Obvious money grab to not cap the tickets.

I had a great time Thursday. But I really only go to Jazzfest if one of my favorite bands are playing.

I had a great time but I was outside of the gates drinking bloody marys 3 hours before they opened. Claimed a good spot with our tarp and chairs when they did open. There are places out there to setup camp that almost always give you an opportunity to escape out to the track and navigate around.
It was the most crowded I have ever seen it but if you've been going to Jazz Fest over the last few years you learn how to adapt and prepare for it.
I know people like to have fun but I don't understand the people that drink beer all day at something like that knowing they will have to fight ridiculously long lines later when they're about to piss all over themselves. I like to drink and have just as much fun as anybody but it just isn't worth it to me under those conditions.

The Fairgrounds is for the birds. Stick to late night shows in the theaters and clubs.

It was insane. Luckily we got a spot for Elton John that somewhat had some room, but at one point EMS had to physically push people out the way to get an old man out who was pretty dehydrated. I had fun but that was the biggest crowd i've seen there, at every stage.

Only amateurs use the bathrooms. I've pulled the bottle trick in heavy crowds before.
On a serious note, they do need to do soemthing about the crowd. It will be bad news for Quint and company if/when some old person dies in the crowd because EMTs couldnt get to them

Oh we did. We knew that would be better going into the weekend, it always is.
And I knew it would be crowded on Saturday, but this was over the top.
And my wife is 5 foot nothing and has a tiny bladder. She only had to pee once, but it took her an hour. When I slightly had to pee 3 hours in, we all just decided to leave. Went to Liuzza's, watched a brass band on the street, and LSU baseball on the TV before heading to Frenchman for dinner.
Had a wonderful weekend in New Orleans. The weather was fantastic and the late shows were awesome.
That Saturday Jazzfest though was very poorly executed. We couldn't even see the bands at Congo Square or the Blues Tent because it was so overcrowded.
FTR, I went to Nature One Festival in Germany. There were 100,000+ people there and all were nasty Eastern Euros on ecstacy. That felt way less crowded than this past Saturday.

I saw two separate incidents of people passing out and EMS not being able to get to them because of the crowd.
Also saw someone have a straight freakout when stuck in the Elton crowd. Just kicked over like 30 chairs running out of the area

I made the early executive decision to avoid Acura all day Saturday, anticipating the throngs. Soul Rebels got crowded towards the end of their set, but I got some food, then was easily able to get a seat in the NOCCA, Jazz, and Blues tents. It was a perfect storm of weather, Elton John, and asshats setting up chairs/blankets to block major arteries of traffic.

This has to be my biggest complaint. I dont know if it was people who have never been before or what, but this was a major cluster frick.

I think he had a panic attack or something. He was neon red in the face and sweating and sprinting through chairs. His path of destruction looked like a mini-post Tornado path through a neighborhood.
Everyone was screaming "WHAT THE frick MAN!?!?" and he gave no shits. When he got out, he started to speed walk right past us. No clue what happened.

These people can blow me. I wouldn't care that much if they didn't complain about people walking in front of them after setting up in walkways.
They need to enforce those paths better. They had markings but no one obeyed them.
