Thinking of a Grateful Dead

Looking for a new album to get into and realized I have no Dead. Really want a whole album that is good and not a greatest hits. What are the suggestions?

American Beauty is the best album, but you should check out the dicks picks series to really get into what the dead is about.

Skip the albums and go for the live shows.
American beauty and workingmans dead are my two favorite albums though.

Only ones I can listen to are American Beauty and Working Man's Dead... although Bertha is probably my favorite song (best done by Los Lobos)...

Live/dead
Dark Star is awesome. Dicks picks is really the way to go, 11 is the favorite that I own. I don't know that it is the best, but one of my favorites.
If you like bob dylan get Postcards Of The Hanging. Album is the dead covering dylan.
Anything live is what you need. Workingman's Dead is what got me into the band
