I'd say The Pixies put out more quality, and musically superior, music than Nirvana ever did.

Discuss.

Love both, but yeah I would go with Pixies. Doolittle and Surfer Rosa are both top ten all-time for me.

Debaser was on the NCAA 06' soundtrack and was stuck in my head forever.

In the early 90's no one uttered Pixies in the same sentence as Nirvana.

I can't imagine his has changed in the last 20 years

Kurt Cobain did. On writing Smells Like Teen Spirit, "I was basically just trying to rip off the Pixies."

That's all well and good, but nirvana is still head and shoulders better than the pixies

I'd disagree and favor the pixies over nirvana

Pretty much EVERYBODY did. First, because Cobain openly invited the comparison. Secondly, because both bands enjoyed some mainstream success (at the time, the Pixies were about as big as an indie band could ever hope to get).

I think Nirvana has more in common with the Mats. The Pixies were always aiming for something a bit weirder than Nirvana ever was. Which is why I like them more.

I probably would have it as a toss up... Depending on mood, could go either way..

Did Pixies ever put out a song as good as Smells Like Teen Spirit?

love both. Growing up in the 90s, I was exposed to Nirvana more than the Pixies. But the Pixies was ahead of its time in the 80s for sure and enjoy their music. They definitely influenced a lot of alt rock bands of the 90s.

I obviously need to go back and listen to Pixies a little closer so I can figure out whether this revisionist history is justified
