That's awfully good news.

Really cool track that I imagine will be on the new album

Nice!

I saw them back in 2010 when they played ACL with Band of Horses and I thought they were great.

They are pretty much my favorite current band.

I can't think of too many bands that have a 3 album streak as good as Alligator-Boxer-High Violet.

Not discounting your appreciation for The National or denying they are a very good band...

But IMO, 3 is easy... It's the 5, 6, 7 in a row that is very hard to accomplish. Some of my favorite bands couldn't make it past the 3-4 mark... of course there are many factors that contribute to this...

Gospel is my go-to lullaby for Mowgli. She goes out like a light as soon as I put Boxer on. God bless this band.

Here's a good one from one of the better Pitchfork writers:
quote:

@en_cohen: Dudes in New York who went to colleges that cost $50k/year are currently prepping their best "The National are yuppies" jokes, can't wait.

I like it a good bit, but personally I don't think it is in the class of the other three.

I would rate their albums as follows (out of 10)

Boxer- 10
Alligator- 9.5
High Violet- 9
Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers- 7

Hyden made a crack that we live in a world in which hipsters hate the National but love Justin Timberlake.

I think that's due to many at Pitchfork believing that they should define what mainstream pop music is acceptable.

I've had it for a few days now. It drags a bit in the third quarter, but does nothing to make me think less of this band. "I Should Live In Salt" is amazing.

Have to agree with High C. I'm a huge National fan. The album opens with a bang but hits a temporary lull before it wraps it beautifully with the last two tracks. However, as you well know, you may not really appreciate certain National songs until the 20th spin when you are finally hearing all the layers....

New album has a Nick Cave vibe to it.
