The difference in guitarists

There are different styles of guitarists out there. Many get a lot of recognition and acclaim because of their ability to play many notes in a short period of time. That is all well and good and sometimes I do enjoy that. But there are a handful of guitarist, who know how to get the absolute most and best sound out of every note. Guys like Dickie betts, toy Caldwell, Albert King(and some others) I believe these guitarist and others like them are in a class all by themselves!

That’s the part of trying to pick a great guitarist….you have to account for the genres.
There are fantastic, world class rock guys who can’t begin to do Nashville finger picking like Brent Mason
Likewise there are country guys who don’t play straight ahead rock or blues as well
At the end of the day though, they’re all extremely talented.

The way I see it, there are many many great pickers in every genre, but the ones that always stand out to me are the ones that play for the song. Not just to do a great guitar part, but know how to make it fit, because they have really listened and understand the song. They find a way to accentuate the important lyric lines and emphasize all the important statements. Not everybody can do it.

Yep.
I hope they never find out some mathematical equation as to why some guitarists can make you feel the music. That would 100% ruin the magic of it.

I think it's silly to suggest they "can't" just because they "don't"
I would say that any elite guitarist could pick up another style relatively easily. Might take a little practice, because it's not what they do every day, but it's still the same instrument.

There are plenty of videos of elite guitarists playing different genres.
Just off the top of my head:
John 5 can chicken pick and play the banjo.
Richie Kotzen dropped the pick and went full finger-picking mid career, and made multiple jazz fusion albums after being a metal guitarist. He can also play the banjo.
Buckethead is a known chicken picker.
As was Brent Hinds.

He's a great picker, but I doubt he would get much session work in Nashville studios for recording country music.

Probably not. It's not his main genre. I doubt Brent Mason could be the lead guitarist of Motley Crue.
The post I referred to, which was not you, claimed that "world class rock guitarists" could not do Nashville style finger picking. Which is obviously false.
The point is that elite guitarists can play many genre's well. They have the talent and skill. At that point it's just a matter of practice to master a new style.
I have no doubt that if John 5 wanted to become an elite Nashville picker, he could in time.

I think that it takes a genuine longtime love for the genre of music that you play. Listening to a lot of it from an early age. There are nuances and context to be considered, along with the mechanics and mathematics.
