Went and saw them at the Varsity last night, my first time seeing them since the Varsity show back in 2001. I didn't remember them being as loud last time. Duffy was playing through two relatively small combos (a Vox and a Roland I think) going through two 4x12 cabs and holy crap, he was getting a badass sound out of them!

They sounded good. Only missed "Edie Ciao Baby" for songs I really wanted to hear. Packed house. Any other TD people catch it?

No, we were all too busy complaining on the internet about how good bands never play shows in Baton Rouge. Such leaves little time for seeing good bands when they play shows in Baton Rouge. I'm sure you understand.

Was there and thought they sounded great. It was loud but the second show in 2001 was worse. It's great to see the varsity get that kind of act again. Such a great venue

They weren't louder... we're just older

Thought it was a great show. They really rocked it and had a nice mix of songs from across their history:

Wild Flower
Dark Energy
Rain
Horse Nation
Lil' Devil
Gone
Honey from a Knife
Birds of Paradise
Deeply Ordered Chaos
Sweet Soul Sister
Fire Woman
The Phoenix
She Sells Sanctuary

GOAT
Love Removal Machine

I was there. Better sound than when I saw them in the dome with GnR. The sound was awesome last nite. My ears are still ringing today.

But it didn't beat when I saw them on the Electric tour, headlining at the Saenger. GOAT show.

I was there. Billy Duffy rocked. The intro to Phoenix was pretty awesome. I was upstairs so the sound was just right. Ian Astbury was funny as usual. He hates the cell phone attack. Who left the TV monitors on over the bar? Ha. That was funny.

They were pretty solid when they opened for GNR two months ago.

I saw them in 1991 and still remember it as being the loudest show I've ever seen.

Just now reporting. That was my 3rd time to see them and it was my favorite concert of theeirs. They sound so good in a small venue and YES, loud as hell! They still rock. Many people who told me they went to GNR also said they skipped The Cult as if they were some local opening act. I get it...you went to see the baddest band of the '87-'92 era, but come on! The Cult is a band that I just do not understand -- especially now -- how anyone cannot watch and have fun. They're not in their Dreamtime/Love/Peace stage, but they also aren't cheesy like Sonic Temple days and they're not trying to be something they aren't ala the "Comin' Down/Drug Tongue" days. They're legends and they belong in the R&R HOF -- or maybe they don't, since that organization is a crock.

Set list (thanks lsuin92)

Wild Flower -- every time I see the Cult they open with this. I would love to see them get a bit creative and open with something like "American Horse" or "Sun King" or "Nirvana" as they once did. Wildflower is great, but it's like Ian and Billy just have to see how many times they can open with this.

Dark Energy -- decent new track. Nothing to brag about.

Rain -- Always gets me. Always play it. Always on point. Billy on the White Falcon for this song is Utopia on strings.

Horse Nation -- A solid play, but this is always that track other than Spiritwalker, that they revert to. I would love to hear Moya, Big Neon Glitter, or 83rd Dream instead.

Lil' Devil -- Always a tune to grind on your wife to

Gone -- Great new track. Really sounded like old 1985ish Cult.

Honey from a Knife --Meh

Birds of Paradise -- Meh

Deeply Ordered Chaos -- Potential to see it again.

Sweet Soul Sister -- Okay, not a fan of the LP standard song, but for some reason -- and it's been all 3 times -- the Cult just rocks the fuggin house to this. I LOVE LOVE LOVE hearing this live.

Fire Woman -- It's a classic, but give it up for maybe something else.

The Phoenix -- My oh my talk about psychedelic rocking out...1985 style!

She Sells Sanctuary -- I would piss on your grandmother while she was crocheting if they skipped this.

Great show, but it's pretty much the basics and some new stuff. Still, the sound was LOUD and good. The opening act was solid (New Regime) and the crowd's mean age was about 45...so everyone behaved, but had fun.

Not new. This is off the Black Sheep album.

The encore was GOAT and Love Removal. They don't always start with Wildflower but most of the time they do. Just like LRM to end the show. Would like to see one or two from Ceremony also.

Overall a killer show. The Varsity needs to keep it up for us old folks. (45 to 55) Tons of other shows that would be great.
