The classic rock band Boston

I've been listening to classic rock since it first appeared. The one thing I have always thought about the band Boston is that their music has never sounds dated. They sounded ahead of their time back in the day and have sounded relevant ever since.
The vocal range of original leader singer Brad Delp is best featured on "More Than A Feeling" and founder and lead guitarist Tom Scholz's solo on "Foreplay/Longtime" is among my favorite of all time.
For me, they didn't have a lot of songs I like, but the above two along with "Rock and Roll Band" and "Feelin Satisfied" are rock standards IMO.

The first CD I ever bought was Boston's debut album.
And while some of you may not think thats special, the purchase was made in or around 2001. While all of my friends were getting Backstreet Boys and N*SYNC, my dad had me hooked on Boston, Kansas, and Styx.
Boston is and will always be my favorite. Completely agree with the OT.
Although this might be my favorite song - Hitch A Ride

They really are a great band. While being similar to Journey in style, I find I don't get tired of them, or annoyed. Their catalog just sounds timeless.

It's amusing to put Boston out there in 2015 as if somebody might not be familiar with them.
Are there any more startling thoughts on bands or artists that have been flogged to death on the radio over the last 40 years? What about those limey upstarts... um... what's the name again? Some kind of name like The Bugs or The Insects or something like that...? Help me out...

They were. One of the few times you knew you were hearing something new and fresh at the time (Queen being another).
It's a shame Brad Delp had to waste much of his prodigious talents working in a Beatle cover band while waiting on Scholz to feel like touring. Delp is another who maintained his vocal range until the end. Great talent.

What was it with Boston that make many people say they could preform live. Was it something in the way the music was recorded?
Anyway, I think the lyrics to "More than a feeling" are timeless and beautiful. Really just focus on the lyrics next time you hear it.

Interesting you say that - because I often draw parallels between the bands as well - the obvious similarity in vocal styles of the lead singers, each band had a fairly unique vibe - Queen was almost a hybrid between "original" heavy metal (mainly Sabbath) and Glam - Boston was almost a hybrid between the same "original" heavy metal and 1970s AOR - but another interesting parallel - the relative "non-musical" genius of the lead guitarists. Both innovative players that heavily influenced players that followed them - Brian May built a guitar from parts with his father as a young man and went on to complete his PhD (after a hiatus as a rock star for over 30 years
) in astrophysics. On the other hand, Tom Scholz found a creative way to use broken and defective equipment to make atmospheric effects without the use of synthesizers, MIDI sequencers or computers. He earned bachelor and master degrees in mechanical engineering, before becoming a rock star, and started the Rockman guitar effects company - essentially as a sideline to his work as a musician.
The more you know, right?

Thanks for the background information on May and Scholz.
I thought I'd heard May got his distinctive sound using burnt wood in his guitar (not sure). And then I guess I knew Scholz work on Boston's first album for years refining his electric tricks.
And I definitely remember kids going to Boston's first tour and saying they were having trouble re-creating their sound on stage. Still, I wish I had gone. Had two chances on their first tour and took a pass.
