Are they the last truly hard driving Southern Rock band to have significant radio play on classic rock stations? I can’t think of another Southern rock band who came after them who hit the charts the way they did and who still get played all the time on classic rock stations.
Were they the bookend to the end of an era?
Would you lump them in the “classic rock” category now even though they were at their pinnacle in the 90s? Most people think of that genre as being bands primarily from the late 60s, 70s, and early 80s. I can’t think of another band from the 90s that gets airplay on a classic rock station.
Edited to say maybe RHCP might be similar?

Such a great band. A shame the Robinson brothers can’t get along. All they do is take pot shots at one another calling out each other’s new bands.

Kind of gay and ripped off the latter Small Faces, and especially Humble Pie, before they went freebirdesque.

Love the Black crowes. Their various covers of famous rock songs on their live albums are really good too.

They were a very good Southern Rock band. They were great live. Unfortunately because the two founding brothers can't get along they are No more.
Blackberry Smoke has picked up where the Crows left off.
Blackberry Smoke and Whiskey Myers two very good Southern zrock Bands to catch live when you can.

I never really considered them southern rock. I looked at them as more barroom rock. To me they were a lot closer to the Rolling Stones or The Faces than they were to Skynard or the Allman Brothers. After all they didn't tour with Derek Trucks, they toured with Jimmy Page. Great Mfing band though and probably the last (depending on your opinion of Pearl Jam) great rock band that stood the test of time over more than just two or three albums.

I can't really think of a single way in which those two bands are similar.
I'm a big fan of The Black Crowes although it kind of bummed me out the direction they took their music toward the end. I like their tighter, punchier stuff over the meandering, jammy material.
I had so much hope when they played the lawn at L'auberge a few years back. Enjoyed it thoroughly... and then they proceeded to break up for the last time and L'auberge (arguably) has not booked anybody worth a frick since then.

thats chris robinson...his new CRB band is pretty psychedelic jamband material. you either like it or you dont
however, he can belt a rock tune like nobody's business, and the show i saw at the joy this year "as the crow flies" was really great, bringing back all the black crowes tunes

They were just a great rock band, period. Amorica is one of the best albums of the 90a.
BlackBerry Smoke are lousy. No soul.

I'm a big fan too and somewhat agree with this. Maybe that's why I can listen to Magpie Salute where many can't. I will say this, I listened to a recent CRB show on youtube and they have really come into their own. 10x better than some of the early outings.
But still give me Black Crowes with the Brothers, Ford, colt, and ed over anything.

I wouldn't say lousy. They can rock and the live shows sound great but their lyrics are straight bro country in most of their songs.

The By Your Side albums gets overlooked. Sort of a return to the basics with Go Faster, Kickin' My Heart Around, Virtue and Vice

They are HeadyB’s favorite jam band

That's the 'no soul' and 'lousy' part, lol. The music was okay, and I'm sure they're fine musicians, but they remind me way too much of the crap you describe.

Did you really intend to describe them as “kind of gay? What does that even mean?
