I haven’t listened to a Taylor swift album in years, but had to give this one a few listens since the critics seems pretty high on it.

I think it is pretty good. Definitely pleasantly surprised with the production and greater depth to her songwriting. I’d say betty and invisible string are the real standout tracks, fantastic songs. The last great American dynasty and exile are nice as well.

That's because Aaron Dessner from The National produced and cowrote most of the album.

Old dawg...

How about I just post the lyrics to Deacon Blues? Jesus, the girl writes three chord pop songs which are then completely overhauled by talented producers and players.

And BTW, I enjoy several of her songs, but let’s not go crazy making it more than it is.

I'm actually curious about how much Dessner wrote lyrics wise. Clearly he wrote most of the music, it sounds very much like the last few The National albums. I'm guessing she wrote most of the lyrics kinda like the way The National writes songs with Dessner and the band coming up with music and sending them to Matt Berninger to write lyrics.

I was thinking 12 year old girls, but she probably still appeals to teenagers too.

I like her. I consider her a guilty pleasure. I'd have never heard one note if I wasn't raising a prepubescent girl.

She's made so much money on so little talent. I envy her.

I just finished my first listen of the full album. I like it. It's a lot more indie-folky storytelling than any of her past work. betty is probably my favorite track of the whole album. The different points of view with the whole cheating storyline is well done too. At least I'm pretty sure that's what she was going for.

Its good, but certainly not amazing. I think my favorite song is the Bon Iver one.

Can't be overstated. I really love this album. Exile is one of my favorite songs in a long while.

When people on this board are praising Taylor Swift and shitting on Ryan Adams (I know) then music is in a world of shite

For the most part this is a pretty grown up sounding album. Her voice is made to front a band with actual instruments. The Bon Iver song and Betty are fantastic. You can also tell Cardigan, Betty and August are all connected. I couldn’t put my finger on it so I googled it. I won’t spoil anything but that’s pretty good writing.

I mean... my first comment was calling it cringe. The second comment was saying she isn’t untalented.

Where am I going crazy here?

Betty is best song and sound on album. Am I gay for this?

It’s mirrorball. But it’s a blatant rip off of dashboard Confessionals “stolen”.

Like blatant

Exile is an amazing song, this board would love it if anyone but T. Swift wrote it.

The album can drone on a little, but she has a couple of really good songs in there (Exile, the1, Betty, Cardigan).

It's easier to name the songs I don't like than the ones I do. This is a really even, solid album. I'm guessing the fact that I really like The National is a big part of it but she writes damn good lyrics.

I think Betty is the worst of the 3 connected songs fwiw but it is still pretty good.

I really enjoyed the album. Dessner's production works nicely and Taylor wrote some of her best songs.

There are a few tracks where I wish her vocals were more in the front of the mix (mirrorball particularly). I feel like they're a little too washed out in reverb. But a lot of these are great tunes.

One of her best for sure.
