Successful bands that lasted way longer than you thought they would

And I don't mean that having longevity equals success. I'm talking mainstream bands that have achieved megasuccess.

I'll be honest, I didn't think Korn was going to be much. I liked their first album, but thought it was just an angsty band with a bagpipe gimmick to help them stand out.

If you were to tell me that 26 years later, they'd still be putting out hits and still sounded fresh, I would not have believed you.

What are some other bands that are shockingly still relevant?

I'd also say that I'd have doubted Red Hot Chili Peppers (one of my favorite bands) would have the longevity and significance they've enjoyed.

Green Day (not as much a fan) also fits.

they were good back then, even though they ripped off mr bungle and sepultura, they formed their own way. I liked their first and third album

Listen to their albums when Head left, they were fricking awful. After he came back they got better.

Of course the 1st album was the best.

No doubt. I had the first album and wore it out in my Discman. I just didn't see them going the distance. I felt the song ADIDAS confirmed that, as it's pretty juvenile in nature.

That band was strange when it came to guitar. Both of those guys are not better than 1 dimbebag darrell when it comes to the ins and outs of "guitar".

Yet, the result of those two guys working together created a type of atmosphere at times, and using the low tuning 7s almost as a percussion instrument, gave a lot of punch. Heads constant experiments with pedals paid off on the albums he was there

Korn had a unique sound back in the day. Maybe people want to stick with the OGs. Limp Bizkit having a second life the past few years is more perplexing. Their sound is very dated.

I was coming here to say U2, lol.

I thought the first album was great and that there was no way they would last. Bzzzt

On the contrary I think they’re severely underrated and am surprised they’re not talked about more.

Oh, I agree with that, but I am surprised they lasted so long.

Head even admits his playing ain’t much but songwriting is here he really succeeds

Yes. Most recent hit is Can You Hear Me. Album was released 10 months ago, but singles are still rolling out.

Considering frontman Dave Mustaine was booted from a band nicknamed "Alcoholica" for drinking too much, it's a wonder he's still alive, let alone having led Megadeth to the level of success he has. Mustaine formed the band after he was kicked-out of Metallica. You've got to admire Dave's determination to avoid becoming a footnote in heavy metal history. He's still releasing albums today and has carved quite a niche for himself in the genre.
