I want to thank this board for introducing me to this guy. His first 2 albums were available on Amazon MP3 for $5 each. I bought both of them and was blown away.
Just wanted to state that this a great place to discover new artists. Thanks to y'all I have a new favorite to listen to.

YouTube an interview.
He and John Prine get interviewed together for a Grammy showcase and then they do about 4 Prine songs together.
The interview is awesome if you like John Prine. He gets into his stories of starting out and they are all great. Simpsons start was more mundane. He even throws his hands up at one point at the absurdity of Prines stories.
Cool 15 minutes or so watch. But you have to like them both. Prine kind of dominates the interview and Sturgill lets him.

So OP? What are some HOLY shite Sturgill songs?
I have never really listened to him other than snippets of him doing other songs with other people that I found through John Prine videos.

Start with Ain't All Flowers and turtles all the way down
He doesn't have a bad song. Metamodern and Sailors Guide are both amazing all the way through. High Top Mountain is great as well.

One of the best artists making music right now
Saw him a few weeks ago at Boulder Theater and what a show. He does a great job showcasing the other members of the band and sounds even better live than on an album

All of High Top Mountain is a good intro. Solid country music. Water in a Well has always kinda been my favorite.

This board introduced me to Sturgill Simpson, Justin Townes Earle, Joe Pug, and Jason Isbell. They are now some of my absolute favorite singer songwriters.

Loved his first two... haven't been as enamored with the latest one.. that said, when I saw him perform it live, this summer, it was great...

Joe Rogan Podcast Interview of Simpson
You may not like Rogan's "interview" style which is basically talk about all kind of shite with people but give it a shot.

If you aren't a fan of most country music in general, Metamodern is a good album to start with. I hated country music outside of Johnny Cash until I listened to Metamodern.

Sturgill got started before he released High Top Mountain. You'll have to YouTube it, but check out his bluegrass band Sunday Valley. They released an album named "To The Wind And On To Heaven" that I really enjoy. He's a heck of an artist.

Finally discovered Sturgill earlier this year. Love almost all of it. Favorite songs rotate depending on moods.
