7 pages(!!!) and other than the OP, no other mentions of Sleep?

That's almost unforgivable; thread should be ripped from the server & burned on a funeral pyre.

I don't know, Sleep is a pretty hallmark band in the genre.

Here, have another band that was woefully under-mentioned in this thread: Electric Wizard - Dope Throne (ENTIRE ALBUM)

Son both bands you mention are in the OP.
I understand your point, but most of us either post something different or what we are listening to now.

Really, just do you.

Nah man, I think you got me wrong. I wasn't really trashing your thread; just goofing on the fact that you're the only one who mentioned those two bands.

As for what I've been listening to lately, this is pretty good stuff: Domovoyd - Incarnation. Definitely grounded in the doom genre, but with some post-rock tendencies (Russian Circles, Pelican, et. al.)

Also, Pale Devine - Judas Wheel. Certainly has an older vibe to it...reminds me of Acid Bath in some respects.

Finally, I'm pretty impressed with Albino Python - The Haunter Of The Dark. Pays homage to the older sound, but what really blows me out of the water is that this is the first S/S/D band with a female singer that I actually like.

more of this please.

I actually haven't given that much thought(women in this genre). I can only think of Kylesa right now.

I understand, I was just saying that I could post from SLEEP or Electric Wizard all the time, just I feel those are more popular than most so lets dive deeper. Nothing wrong here bro... good songs all together you posted.

I could post all day and get lost in this thread!

Beast In The Field - "Wakan Tanka". Nice instrumental number here with a bit of doom, a bit of post-rock, and everything in between.

Capricorns - "November Suicides". Getting back into listening to these guys again; really ballsy sound that swings the gamut from prog-metal to sludge.

Russian Circles - "Geneva". I'm sure they have more than a few fans on this forum, but I still run into people who've never heard of 'em. This is usually the tune I use to introduce them. Brian Cook's bass tone is absurd.

Toner Low - "Eight". Probably my current "favorite" band right now. Track is off their most recent album. Very moody, very atmospheric, and 100% bad-arse.

Old Man Gloom - "Hot Salvation". Side project of Aaron's (Isis). More post-metal than sludge, it also has some elements of Helmet & Unsane.

Kylesa - "We're Taking This". All over the map & probably one of the most interesting releases this year. They're definitely their own band, but I sense Palms-like elements as well as a host of other lesser-known groups. A great album from beginning to end. Used to be up on Pitchfork for streaming.

Finally, this interview has me pretty excited.

The band’s guitarist Matt Pike took time out from rehab (but not the rehab you’re thinking), jamming for a new album for Sleep and his work as frontman for stoner rock band High On Fire to chat to Beat about everything Sleep.

Yes! My sister used to catch them in Oakland a number of years back.

Good stuff; definitely a mixture of Sabbath-era sounds & some of the more proggy stuff that was just coming into the collective music consciousness at the time.

Finally someone has posted the EP. Just 25 minutes of straight hard jamming. More up tempo than the typical sludge but worth the listen.

Sir Lord Baltimore
If you go on to read about them, they are said to be one of the first bands to have the stoner rock sound. Very cool
Thanks for posting!

Got down with some Dead Meadow a few times before. Been a few years since that happened... will check out further. I remember their artwork being killer

The event information on facebook was way off. Doors opened at 8, first band went on at 9:30, Pelican went on a little before 12. Good show though.
