The Spotify radio function used to be great for discovering new music, but it's broken now. Or just severeley flawed.

Algorithm Test:

Would a spotify user mind playing the song "The Guitar" by Guy Clark, and then hit the "Go to radio" function? And then please let me know the first 5 songs it recommends.

Thanks in advance

The song is arbitrary. I just want to see if it spits out different results for different users

Interesting

Here are the first 5 it recommends to me...

1) Feelin Good Again - Robert Earl Keen
2) Where Rainbows Never End - The Steeldrivers
3) My shite's fricked Up - Warren Zevon
4) Let the Mystery Be - Iris DeMint
5) The Weary Kind - Ryan Bingham

What are the variables? And what do they have to do with Guy Clark?

I have found the radio function on Spotify to always be the apps weakness. I’ve started a radio station based on a song and have had that song repeat like 3 times in the station. Spotify for on demand, pandora for radio

How many of those 5 songs/artists are ones you follow/marked as liked (hearted)?

I have found that if I follow an artist or like a song/album, it is more likely to show up in a radio station, even if the song/artist has nothing really in common with the song/artist/playlist that I created the station from.

I think your problem is you chose a radio station based on a song rather than a particular artist.

Robert Earl Keen is an obvious choice for Guy Clark radio.

All of them. That’s my point.

The radio option used to be a great way to discover new music. But now it mostly just recommends music that it knows that you know.

What’s the point? If I want that, I’ll create a playlist.

95 percent of my daily mix is songs I’ve already liked (I’ve liked just under a 1,000). Should really be more suggestions based on what I like in there.

Lawyers, Guns and Money - Warren Zevon
Breakfast in Hell - Slaid Cleaves
Just Breathe - Willie Nelson & Lukas Nelson
When I Go Away - Levon Helm
It's a Great Day to be Alive - Darrell Scott

Lawyers, Guns and Money is the only one of those I have as liked.

Same for me. I have almost the same amount liked. It always seems like they use the same 100 or so liked songs in the daily mixes too and leave out the majority. I'd like it to be about 25% already liked songs.
