“Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin is very very similar to an old Muddy Waters blues tune “You Need Love” written by Willie Dixon

Robert Hunter said the best compliment he ever received was when he went into a bar somewhere in Kentucky or Virginia and someone played Cumberland Blues on the jukebox and the guy next to him at the bar said "I wonder what the guy that originally wrote this would think if he found out the Grateful Dead were going to cover it."

Paul Williams (Little Enos Burdette) wrote:

We've Only Just Begun AND Rainy Days and Mondays (Carpenters)
Rainbow Connection (Kermit the Frog)
He also wrote the lyrics to Evergreen.
His brother (Mentor Williams) wrote Drift Away (Dobie Gray).
[Another brother, John J. Williams, worked for NASA in capsule development and other operational areas in the Mercury and Gemini programs. He must have been much older - might have been a half-brother - and is the brother that was raised in New Orleans and attended LSU - the younger brothers grew up in Oklahoma and moved out West to get into show business.]

Hard to Handle - Otis Redding
Always thought it was a Black Crowes song. I didn't even realize that the Grateful Dead has performed covers of the Redding song.

Have they written anything, except for that drawn out slow song, something about angel or angels?
