How about Silent Lucidity by Qheensryche. Somehow I had never heard this song till around a year ago and was immediately taken. I love finding great songs that I missed hearing, nice little extra gift if you know what I mean.

A few years back, a bunch of my friends from work were going to see Cat Power in concert and they ended up with an extra ticket. I had heard of her, but never listened to more than a minute or two of a handful of her songs. I liked hanging out with the people that were going - If I enjoyed the concert... Icing on the cake.
I can't believe I didn't include this in my OP...
"Metal Heart" - Cat Power (LIVE on Letterman 2008)
CHILLS. Like "I've just stumbled into somebody's private church" chills.

Loved me some Ryche back in the day. Operation Mindcrime made me a fan, but this was my first impression of them. And it fits the thread topic, I think. It kicks in pretty quick, though. Does that count as "building"? Dunno. Kicks arse, though...

I watched Cat Power on Austin City Limits and was mesmerized. Entranced. Been a huge fan since. I need to pick up her new album.

For some unfathomable reason, the syth solo in "Jump" by Van Halen builds so spectacularly to my eardrums, sixteen years later, the final fifteen notes of the synth solo give me goosebumps...
