because I'm using the term in a very generic sense, where you appear to be using in it in different context...

Are you familiar with the police?

Of course. I just don't see them as a rock band. Much too light-hearted and poppy to fit with what I consider rock.

The police in the 70's and early 80's were absolutely a "rock" band...

New wave, reggae rock.. Those fit too.

They were never some "pop" band..

It's all relative... they won grammys in both pop and rock categories on the same record...

In the big picture, I doubt you get many arguments calling them a pop band or a rock band... or pop rock

My opinion of what fits into the Rock genre is clearly different than yours, Doc. To each his own.

Nobody can criticize them for failing to change up their sound. That's for sure.

All three appeal to me in their own unique ways.

Their first album is amazing. I wasn't a big fan of Contra. The last album was very good and fresh. I like a band that tries something differsnt instead of the status quo that they established.

I will never understand why people love Vampire Weekend so much.

If you're listening to pop music and expecting to have some sort of epiphany, you're likely going to be severely disappointed.

All you can really ask is that it be catchy.

I don't know what the frick One Republic is, and I think I've heard like one or two Fun songs, and that shite is terrible

But Vampire Weekend has done some decent stuff. Not life-altering stuff, but solid pop music.

My $.02

I don't disagree with you. There are some great pop albums, but I get the most out of other music. That doesn't mean some people can get something out of it that I can't.

That being said, I still think VW's self titled is a very good album.
