Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds isn't taking this shite anymore LINK
quote:
“For a decade now I’ve dealt with critics and other bands saying extremely harsh things about my band. Not what I would call “fair criticism” (which I always try my best to receive and learn from) but actual click-bait horse shite. Words filled with vile and hate meant to feed humanities need to laugh at each other’s imperfections and fails.
I’ve stood silently and taken it for years. It has added to the depression I’ve dealt with since youth. I don’t say this in search of sympathy, but just as a fact.
It’s not the person that causes me the feelings of stress and depression, but what it does to the world we as a band have created.
How it could possibly make a kid feel “not cool” listening to imagine dragons. I hate that thought. Wondering if my kids will be made fun of as they grow older because someone thinks my band isn’t cool.
I’ve gotten over the fact that guys in other bands (the 1975, foster the people, smashing pumpkins, slipknot, etc) feel a need to talk badly about my band for whatever reason.
I don’t feel anger towards them actually, just more of a sadness that this industry embraces, even celebrates this mentality. I wish it felt like a place where artists stood by each other and supported one another – regardless of our different tastes and voices.
My band mates are some of my best friends. We are authentically ourselves and strive to bring positivity and empowerment to the world.
We’ll continue to do just that.
X DR”

The easy solution to this is to just not suck. Imagine Dragons, as instrumentalists and vocalists, are not without talent. They just write and perform bad songs and perform those bad songs poorly in a live setting. These are flaws which can be cured. For example, it's ok to repeat some words in your chorus as it helps to make the name of your song or your message stick in the minds of listeners. However, if you do it too much, it gets repetitive and annoying. So, maybe say Thunder 8 times in a song instead of 87 times. You know, it's little things like that.
Another thing that would probably get you less criticism going forward when you start promoting your next album would be to actually get good at performing songs live. This is something that takes a lot of practice if one is not a naturally talented vocalist or if a band relies on a lot of loops and backing tracks. There are two routes to fixing this problem:
1. songs with fewer backing tracks played primarily by actual musicians playing real instruments live with no click track; OR
2. having all of your music pre-recorded and lip-syncing and dancing on stage while putting the emphasis in the performance on spectacle and audience engagement.
Going the second route likely would only increase the criticism of your band being a bunch of hacks, but would certainly be the easiest way to eliminate the criticsm of being a bad live performing band. The first route is more difficult to prepare for, but once a band gels as a unit, it actually becomes quite simple. The members, so long as they can hear each other, can adjust to one-another in real time and avoid phasing issues. Their energy can also be authentic and passed on to both the audience and each other. This is the real way to avoid critics.
Finally, one piece of advice is to just stop f&%king worrying about critics. They hate everything. Just count your money and invest it well while you're making it. Reacting to the critics just makes you seem more like a pussy, which only feeds them more reasons to hate you.

Slipknot and Imagine Dragons are equally douchey in their own way and both could sucked into the vortex of hell as far as I'm concerned. In fact, pretty sure if there IS a hell, Slipknot and all their fans are going there.
