Big Skrillex fan here, his music isn't for everyone and once you realize that you'll be better off. He's got some mainstream stuff that you hear at just about every club and he's got some stuff that you'll have to search for to listen to. It's not dubstep, house, trance or techno, his music is hardcore electronic, not for everybody. I'll get off your lawn now old man.

You had me until you started talking about EDM genres.

Please inform me on where I'm wrong then? I'm no EDM expert or anything, I just know that general consensus is that Skrillex's stuff is not typical EDM

I have no idea whether you're wrong because I don't get into the specifics of EDM genres. I mean how many different varieties of House are there? Like 8? It's ridiculous. I don't find discussion of EDM genres to be constructive. It makes things more confusing.

FWIW, I LOVE EDM. I'm not big into Skrillex. Sander, Avicii, and Arty are my favs. Please don't ask me what genre they fall under. I don't know.

People get way too wrapped up in arguing about genres when it really doesn't matter. There are way too many genre's and sub-genre's to even begin classifying it.

If you like it, then listen to it. If you don't, well then....

I'm 21 and can't stand his music.

He was in From First to Last originally, which was one of my absolute favorite bands in high school when I was into screamo/hardcore/punk music. But that stuff has just died off, and I honestly don't think it translates well in the form of electronic music.

I think it translates just as well as say hardcore (Omar Santana) or some jungle/dnb. My husband isn't a huge edm fan, especially not a fan of jungle because he says it sounds like noise, but he likes a lot of songs that are "dubstep" mixes. To me dubstep is more noise than jungle/dnb.

A) do you consider Pepcid a drug?
B) Ive got 10 years on 20.
C) poop, I'm not a dj. I did purchase some turntables once. It didn't go over well....

Why is it so difficult for people to fathom that there are people out there that enjoy Skrillex. Not everything he does is quite so jarring on the ear. Take for instance Benny Benassi's-Cinema(Skrillex mix) or Nero's-Promises(Skrillex mix), these are both excellent, club/dance friendly, basically mainstream songs.

I don't see how people listen to anything being discussed in this thread. To each his own, but that electronic stuff just isn't for me.
