There! I said it.

....I'm not saying VH/wSH had better music. I think the first few VH albums were their best, but VH/wSH had some great stuff, too. SH is simply a better singer, imo.

Now, be trashy, people of TD! Do your worst!

Of course Sammy is a better singer. And Placido Domingo sings better, too. Doesn't mean either of 'em belong in Van Halen.

Of course Sammy was a better singer. David Lee Roth was a far superior entertainer who brought a completely different attitude that helped to give Van Halen its identity. Sammy Hagar’s vocals are superior, but his music had a completely different feeling to it. Dave was all about sex. Sam was all about romantic love.

I love how people just think EVH quit writing music and lyrics when Hagar joined. EVH started bringing in the keyboards before Sammy even got there, see Jump and I’ll Wait.
Sammy gets a lot of undue criticism from fans. I for one liked it. Sammy is all-around better than Roth.

Sammy was the better singer and more serious songwriter. Dave was the better front man, entertainer, showman, performer, and vocalist.

Sammy is Alain Prost, talented but slightly uncomfortable with the idea of taking chances. More mature, calculates the odds, makes decisions with one eye on the long run. In other words a technician.

Dave is Senna. Always going for the fast lap and always trying to go faster without as much concern about the consequences. More of a natural at what he does.

I didn't really like the Sammy era when I was younger because I thought he turned them into soft rock. But, I have come to appreciate those songs more through the years. It was just two different sounds. I've seen Sammy do some Dave songs and it was awful. Conversely, Dave could never pull off some of those Sammy tunes.

Well yeah.

But Van Halen with DLR is 1000x cooler than Van Hagar.

Sammy was better at everything "music" related.

DLR, at his best, was a better "front man", insofar as that is a thing. Hell, for that matter, he was about the best front man for a rock and roll band not named Robert Plant or Freddie Mercury, so that's not really a knock on Sammy.

And he was an unstable drug addict, so that had its drawbacks. Of course, unless you're related by blood, you're only going to be able to work with EVH for so long. History has proven this.

I grew up in the Van Halen days and I admit, I liked both.

I remember more of the DLR songs and I honestly consider them more Van Halen than with Sammy but I loved some of the Van Hager songs too.

I wont say either is better. Liked them both

And Gary Cherone is just a small footnote in the band's history. That was quite an experiment gone wrong (and I always liked Cherone with Extreme).

If the left is insistent on erasing American history I would appreciate it if they would start here.
