all subjective...plug literally any beatles song (or songs) into the top 10 and theres no argument to be had. where the argument lies is including songs in the top 10 (or 20, or 30,,,etc) that dont even belong in the top 1000

Okay, I think Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the most overplayed songs of all time but I am going to cough up my appendix laughing if you put it one notch below Crazy in Love by Beyonce.

Other complaints.

When Doves Cry is a better song than Purple Rain.

Elton John has at least two dozen songs better than Tiny Dancer which is the highest song of his on the list.

I have no clue who or what Daddy Yankee is but I'm sure I could name fifty better songs than Gasalina in less than a minute.

Kashmir #148, Vogue #139 no further comment needed.

Ahh yes, Rolling Stone that bastion of rebellion and counter culture--Anarchy in the U.K. by the Sex Pistols #125, Toxic by Brittany Spears #114.

Purple Haze #250 Brown Vomit (I Want It That Way) #240

Layla #224 Baby One More Time-Brittany Spears #205

I made it from 1 to 250 but I'm out. If I go through any more of this I am going to stab either my or someone at Rolling Stone's eardrums out with an ice pick.

Problem: Nobody buys magazines anymore and the online version isn't getting much attention.

Solution: Create a hot-take list of "greatest songs" that present like a shiny object in front of a kitten and voila!, instant reaction and profile boost.

Looks like the strategy worked.

Which of those top 10 songs is woke?

They're all great songs, though it's hard to imagine any of them actually being among anyone's favorite songs.

Not sure why anybody would expect a list like this to have anything interesting at the top. Hard to imagine rolling stone having anything interesting in the whole list, but I'm not going to read it and find out.

Sam Cooke is better than Otis Redding! This alone disqualifies the entire list

This is why I came to this board for the first time ever.

Atrocious list and clearly forced.

Missy Elliott top 8?!?!? What the bleep.

The woke part is forcing in some of these artist.

Also, perhaps #2 could be considered somewhat of a protest, but that really isn’t the point. The point is I believe several of these were elevated in the rankings due to
race.

Get your freak on number 8 is so wild.

A million problems with the list, but most of all is that the use of the phrase "of all time" instead of "of the modern era".

I know that this is all subjective, but "Back That arse Up", despite being a guilty pleasure, is not better than "Ode to Joy", "1812 Overture", Mozart's "Requiem", etc...

Is that 1 thru 10 or 491 thru 500?

Dreams isn’t even Fleetwood Mac’s best song. I feel like that was added because of that guy on a skateboard.

Even if it was 491 thru 500, it'd still be way too high for about half of the songs on the list.

Agree with Dale on Dreams and the skateboard guy. It's a good song but it's not their best.

And this, Don Henley, Axl Rose, Sharon Osbourne, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Roger Waters, and the estate of Jimi Hendrix is why you do not block people from playing your music on YouTube.

The way Hey Ya is recorded and performed doesn’t line up with a lot of people’s preferred listening, but if you listen to a slower acoustic version of it it really is a fantastic song. Top songs of all time are subjective as hell and this wouldn’t be my list, but “get your freak on” is the only one on the list that truly doesn’t deserve to be there according to anyone

I remember reading a bout Rolling stone took a lot heat for not including other genres of music and just included only rock music.

The best music regardless of music genre will be the ones that make you cry or include the pain of life.

That said he stopped loving her today is listed way too low.
