No link. This was posted to his official Facebook page.

On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.

Dude was such a badass on the guitar. Fortunate that I got to see him perform at New Orleans Jazz Fest a few years back.

Probably the best guitar player I have ever seen and I have seen all of the legends.

He is 78 and lived a Rock’n’Roll lifestyle no doubt. Hardly a shocker.

RIP to a great player.

Boomers and older Gen-Xers need to buckle up. It's going to be a bumpy ride the next few years.

The survivors from the Golden Age of Rock and Roll are pushing 90 if not already there. Let's take an example, all the Crickets who played with Buddy are dead except Sonny and he's turning 86 this year.

The surviving artists of the 1960s, particularly from the British Invasion onward are all upper 70s to 80s and they lived the lives of rock stars for decades in most cases. Rock and Roll is about to enter the "death a day" period for legitimate big names going. Maybe not this month, maybe not in 2023, but soon. It isn't going to be pretty.

No no no no.
I hate 2023 already.
Arguably The GOAT. Certainly among the most unique and influential and just absolute mind- blowing.

He seemed to be in pretty good shape last year (in May with JD) -

Reports say bacterial meningitis. May not be a direct casualty of rock and roll lifestyle.

I die a little bit inside every time we lose one of these legends. It hurts to know that era belongs to the history books now.

Clapton called him the best of the Yardbirds guitarists

John Fogerty said he was the greatest rock guitarist

This one really, really hurts. What a great and yet underappreciated player. One of my all-time favorites.

I’d argue WIRED was also flawless.

Flawless. That second half and outro on “Sophie” bro . Flames of electricity shooting straight out of my brain. Out of body experience. Just jaw- dropping wtf did I just hear ? Is this even real ? 14 years old and not believing I was still on planet earth listening to this.

A masterpiece.

Cause We've Ended as Lovers became one of my favorite songs the instant I heard it for the first time. And that's rare for me. Usually the songs that have the most longevity for me are the ones I didn't really care for at first and they had to grow on me. Jeff put more feeling into that song than most guitarists put into an entire setlist. (Fun fact: it was written by Stevie Wonder.)
