Looking to check out Bela Fleck at Red Rocks in May. Any pro tips on getting in and out of the venue? Parking, seating, best places to stay, etc.? Thanks

park at the top.
seating is up to you, the best sound is about 3/4 up, but i always wind up just moving around and sitting wherever

i like to stay at the cliff house in morrison or one of the cabins on the river right outside of town. morrison has surprisingly good food & bars

I went last summer and stayed downtown Denver. I used Lyft and it was pretty simple and only around a 20-25 minute trip. They dropped us off right at the front gate up top. After the show, they have plenty of signs pointing to the bottom and they have a pickup location for Lyft drivers. You will walk towards the stage and make your way to the bottom of mountain.

Enjoy the show! It is an incredible place.

Went last summer to see ween and parking at the top was the best advice i got. Gotta get there kinda early to make sure you’re up there though.

Best venue in the country. Since da weed became da legal, the place has become overrun with BroMales acting cool because they are smoking. The last show I went to there 3 years ago had me nearly throwing down with some of these fools. They were very obnoxious. My friend there says it has calmed down though now that time has passed. She stopped going for a while and has since started again.

Park to the top left side (don't know directions) in the large field. Make sure it's the topmost. If you get on one of the lower ones near it you will have a steep walk and it can be difficult getting out.

How fit are you?

There are 3 entrances: Top of the Rocks, the stairs from the lower north lot and the ramp from the south lots.

The best place to park is the upper north lot because there's less climbing invovled. But that lot is small. If it fills up you'll be redirected to the lower north lot and have to hoof it up about six million steps to get to the venue. In other words, go early. To get to the north lot, the best approach is Hwy. 93 off of I-70. This is the first exit west of C-470.

Alternatively, you can play it safe and park in the south lots. It's all uphill from there but not too steep of a slope. Also there is a shuttle that will take you up to the venue if you want. The south lots are best accessed by going through the town of Morrison. Take the Morrison exit off of C-470, go through the town and then follow the signs.

Getting out is easy but slow. Just follow the car in front of you.

As for seating, there isn't a bad seat. Most shows have reserved seating up front, then a section of GA and then more reserved behind that. Usually the middle seats have the best sound.

Take a backpack with ponchos, hoodies and maybe a blanket. It can get cold at night, especially that early in the season. I also recommend a foldable stadium seat with a back. You can also bring snacks if you want to.

Can't help you with places to stay because I drive up from the Springs.

yeah if you dont want to get there so early this is 2nd best option. the walk uphill isnt all that bad, especially since you'll be fresh. the upside of parking there is that you walk downhill out of the venue than down to the lots, and its easier to get out from there. also you walk past the trading post which is kinda cool

definitely bring a sweater or jacket in may. red rocks is pretty cool about stuff you can bring inside (moreso than most places). if you are so inclined (and why not?), and you want to toke up, just step out of the stands and walk up to the top

if you can, go very early. They have a restaurant where you can grab a burger and a couple beers and plenty of hiking around the venue.

BTW, has anyone been to a Bela Fleck show? Pretty much entirely instrumental right? Thoughts?

yes, unless they bring on a guest vocalist (rare).
i believe now that the flecktones are back to the original quartet (bela, victor, futureman & howard levy) and they are awesome in concert

I've been to many BF shows both with and without the Flecktones. They are some of the most accomplished musicians you'll ever see. Whether the style of music suits you or not is a different matter. But you'll see some phenomenal musicianship and an entertaining show as well.

Don’t park in the south lot. Do plenty of stairs exercising before you head out. Start preparing hydration levels a week in advance. Sit either in the bottom 1/4 or around 3/4 of the way up, your legs will thank you.

ETA: look at Air BnB and stay as close to Morrison as possible. That’s a long trek from downtown Denver.

I forget the name of the place, but you can make reservations to eat.

Also, if it rains, visit the museum.

There are a party buses that pick up in multiple locations in Denver and surrounding towns. If I remember correctly it was fairly cheap and cheaper than Uber. Just glancing at the website it looks like they’ll wait closer to the season to enter all of the shows in the schedule so check back. Bus to Show

You can drink booze on the way. The bad thing is they park at the bottom lot and the walk up is a serious hike. There is a free shuttle service that will take you to the top gates. Once you’re inside everything runs smoothly. I was at a sold out show and it was very comfortable. The concession areas and bathrooms had short lines and there is tons of room to move around. I bought designated seats just because I didn’t know what to expect but general admission seems fine. Especially if you get there early and claim your spot (which you will if you take the bus). Have fun, it really is a special venue.

Party bud is the move. I’ve seen a dozen shows at Red Rocks and those buses are a blast.

That does look incredible. I saw a similar show at Chastain Park in Atlanta. They played with the symphony but they didn't have all those guest musicians. Except for the orchestra, that's the sort of thing you see at Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
