Recommend a beginner electric guitar amp

I'm an acoustic player but want to get into an electric this year. I won't be playing any gigs so I won't need an amp that's gotta compete with crowd noise or other instruments. Thoughts on an amp that's under $500?

Boss Katana 50W or 100W. The 50 is $270 and the 100 is $400. Great versatile amps.

There's a lot of good reviews on these

I like the BOSS Katana Artist MKII. The artist series with the Waza 12" speakers make a difference imo

Line 6
Make sure it has insane mode
I would question your motivation to play music. Women hate it and you don’t make any money

When you're trying out the Katanas, which are killer, try out the Fender Mustang LT25 too. I have one to keep me occupied in hotel rooms when I travel. You cannot go wrong with either. Line 6 amps are killer for getting a lot of push and go tones, amp sims and effects without spending a lot of money. I have a Spider IV 75-watt 1x12 of which I've tapped into maybe 20 percent of its total offerings because I've never read the quite lengthy manual.

I bought a Vox Pathfinder 10 as a practice amp. Upgrade the speaker for 30 bucks. Modded it.
Couldn't be happier for what I spent.

Fender Blues Jr. Don't get some cheap piece of crap.

Boss Katana 50W or 100W.
I have one, and love it. It is plenty loud at 50wt, but can be set to 25wt, or even .05wt for a bedroom amp. A foot switch allows for 4 preset channels. Boss effects.
I'll bet there is a used one at guitar center right now. $250.

Have you played around with the GarageBand app amps? It’s pretty fun as you can turn your acoustic guitar into sounding like an electric. You can add pedals (you control with your mouth with facial recognition) too.

What kind of stuff do you want to play?

I like to play EVERYTHING. What I play at any time literally depends on what I'm in the mood for playing.

A modeling amp can be a good place to start if you want to learn about effects. You can't go wrong with Line 6 or Boss. Don't spend too much money on a modeling amp.

I am a beginner, and recently upgraded to an Orange 20 RT. They sell for just under 200 new, i got a used one on ebay for 130.
For a beginner, it sounds great, and is way louder than I expected. I cant think of any reason I'd need to upgrade until I got to the point of actually playing with a live band, or maybe even playing live

I had the same dilemma. After thousand videos and comparisons, I bought the newest mustang from fender. I got the 50. The 100 came with a foot pedal. Either one is under $500. I like that all I have to do is turn one knob and have 189 presets to choose from. There are 8 or 10 that have become ‘go to’ settings for songs I like to play.
If you are techy you can get the app, modify, etc. etc.. so as complicated as you like.
If you don’t want a modeling amp get a Vox AC 30, fender blues jr, or one of the fender tube amps.
Best of luck..

Beginner or not, I think the Spark is an awesome little practice amp with so much at your disposal in learning or just practicing that it’s kind of hard to beat for the money.
