Every decade has its good and bad points. I don't know, I'd probably go:

I loved pop punk, so that helped the 2000s a lot in my score.

I'm surprised at the lack of love for the 2010s considering how much good music has come out and how accessible it is.

1. 1980's -- experimental yet all encompassing. Whether you want thrash, new wave, jazz, or hip-hop, this decade covers it all and for the first time, too. YOU could hear INXS, U2, The Buzzcocks, The Cult, Run DMC, Public Enemy, Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, and Metallica. And at their best unlike all of the above in the 90's.
2. 1970's -- GREAT rock music with the majority of the Zeppelins, Floyd, Aerosmith, Foghat, KISS, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc. etc. This decade is why the 1990's sounded like the 1990's.
3. 1990's -- Just new and fresh. Nothing has and will ever sound like 1993-1995. Grunge may be a a puinchline to jokes now, but go back and listen to the heavy 70's influence on AIC, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Green River, Gruntruck, Nirvana, and The Melvins.
4. 1960's -- It may be in 4th on my poll, but it is still valid, spectacular, relevant, uncanny, and original. Jimi, Joplin, The Beatles, The Mamas and the Papas, The Doors' first album and so many more spawned what we all love today. This, other than the 1980's, was the most original decade.
5. The 1950's -- Rock n Roll has arrived.
6. The 2000's -- Other than A Perfect Circle's debut and some newer groups, I didn't care much for it. Great hip-hop, though.
7. 2010's -- I listen to The Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit. Those are the only 2 I have discovered. I hate 9/10 of the shite I hear that has come from this present decade. Too much auto-tuning and trying too hard to sound like someone from 35 years ago. Where's our original band?

Are we talking pop/mainstream or just music in general?

60's - Motown, wall of sound, harmony was paramount, British invasion
70's - great hard rock, stones, zepplin, skynnard, Aerosmith, etc. at their prime
90's - grunge, GNR
80's - arena rock
Every other decade

As a millennial I won't rank, but will say this. I love music from every decade listed. I truly believe our generation has the most diverse music library out there.
