Question for the board: Maynard James Keenan

In the boards opinion, Is he one of the greatest lyricist of our generation with substance and insight of his total consciousness or does he take the human existence much too seriously.
By the way, speaking mainly about Tool lyrics, songs and albums. His bands A perfect circle and Puscifer do not seem to take the same approach to lyrics as Tool. (although the lyrics he writes with each band are great in their own right.)

I'd say Isaac Brock is the greatest lyricist of our generation, but obviously this is wildly subjective.

not a forever tool-er but do like, the music is much better than the lyrics for me, mostly cuz the vast majority I dunno what the lyrics are

He is one of the greatest ever IMO
His TOOL work is outstanding. A few of his really deep songs just to name a few...

46+2 Jungian Theory driven about man ascending
H About his son
Lateralus Fibonnacci Inspired
All amazing lyrical songs with deep meaning and thats just 4 that come right off the top of my head. I could name off 2 dozen if needed.
Don't underestimate his Puscifer work though. This is where his heart is these days, along with his wine making.

I agree but in my opinion "Right in Two" is one of the weaker Tool song if we are speaking of lyrics. Still great though. "Pushit", "Flood", Lateralus", "The Patient", and "The Grudge" are my favorites lyrically.

Granted the lyrics in "Right in two" aren't as strong as the song you listed, however the underlying theme to it is what I think makes it so great. Eden had everything, human nature in its so called "repugnancy" thumbed our noses at God and where there is one we must divide it-Right in two. Just amazing to me that he captured the meaning so perfectly in so few but concise words. Just a genius.
However you are correct, the lyrics of the songs listed are staggeringly good.
