I don't really care for Jamey Johnson, but some songs are meant to be sang from the soul. "Bad" to me is off key, every thing else is style. Most folks have styles they prefer and styles they don't. I don't really care for overly polished vocals.

i'm sorry you do not see artistic value in jamey johnson, or other 'shite' voices. it isn't my problem and i don't feel the need to defend my preferences at the moment.

There's a massive gap between "overly polished" and mutilated goat. His job is to SING. Having a voice is THE important part of that.

I can say that a meal sucks even though I'm not a Michelin-starred chef, and I can say that someone can't sing without being able to sing myself.

A lot of times it's the accompanying music and words that make a musician likable. For instance, it doesn't get much bigger than Ernest Tubb in country music and he had an awful voice (due to a tracheotomy), however you can't help but love his honky tonk sound.

I prefer a voice with a little character when listening to country/folk. This is not to say I don't like someone with a nice, smooth voice. My favorite singer/songwriters (John Prine, Guy Clark, Bob Dylan) have what are classified as shitty vocals.

I see what you mean...does Alfie have any alt-country material you can hook me up with. Hopefully he's coming to a tavern near me soon, would love to drink some cold beer and dance while he belts out some "Fast Train to Georgia" and "The Road Goes on Forever".

Eric Church. I cant name one original song he sings, but I heard him cover a few songs on a benefit concert, Love for Levon, and it peaked my interest. Is it worth listening to his catalog?. Im more of the outlaw country fan btw. RIP Waylon.

Country music is about the honesty of an artist and their storytelling ability.
I don't care if he can sing. If he can tell a story that moves me then I'm ok.

No. He's an artist his job is to create a work of art that makes people feel a desired emotion.
He does his job well with the tools he possesses.
