Is Gary Allan worth listening to?
Serious question. Just saw him on Letterman. Sounds like he may have some talent. Good band.

Really like Gary Allan. Did he sing "ain't the whiskey" that's the best song on his most recent album
Eta hungover heart and you without me are decent too in his newest. If you really want to see if you like him pick up the smoke rings in the dark album or the see if I care album

He doesn't get enough appreciation because of the era of country music that he is in.

Extremely nasal voice.
Which brings up something else. Those who complain about modern country music listen to singers who cannot sing (Jamey Johnson, Randy Rogers Band, etc.). It's ok to say that modern country sucks, but you shouldn't give singers a pass for being terrible if they sing the type of songs you want other people to sing.

yes, I would really prefer if George Strait sang "Drunken Poet's Dream" because Hayes Carll doesn't have a golden voice.

Gary Allan is one of the few country singers I will listen to anymore.

what?
Let's use Jamey Johnson as the example. Most of this board's "REAL country fans" like Jamey Johnson. He sounds like a goat being mutilated. The only way this makes sense is if they think the songs he's singing are good, and thus his terrible voice can be excused because the song itself is good.
TBH, the same thing happens with Bob Dylan fans.
