Fear isn't punk? Wow. Learn something new every day.

Mine:

Fugazi/Minor threat/Rites of Spring (yes, I'm cheating, but they all traded members)
The Minutemen
Richard Hell
Screeching Weasel
Operation Ivy

list changes daily. Well, except Fugazi and the Minutemen.

Some of these bands started as early punk and morphed but I'm listing them anyways.

Suicidal Tendencies
TSOL
Social Distortion
Black Flagg
The Exploited

Hon Mention:
Fear
Circle Jerks
DRI
Agent Orange

***Yes, I preferred the West Coast punk bands but made The exploited an exception.

Agent Orange is the worst band to record a truly great song (Bloodstains). Love that song, hate that band. But I do like west coast punk. They just all blend together as one big band for me.

The Exploited are British, BTW.

Yeah, I edited about The exploited.

Punks Not Dead and Let's start a War were in regular rotation in my younger days. Also, Live at The White House is a great live album.

I think a lot of those hardcore punk bands do, that's why I listed the ones that seem to separate themselves or "grow" from it.

Agent Orange is only on there mainly for nostalgic purposes. It was something we listened to while riding the half pipe along with DRI.

Suicidal Tendencies was one of the "compromise" bands between my punk and metal friends. We could never agree on what to listen to, so we ended up listening to the few bands we could all tolerate: Suicidal Tendencies, Anthrax, Metallica, and the Dead Milkmen (an admittedly odd choice for the metalheads to compromise on). All have a special place in my heart.

funny you mention that b/c I tended to stop with Suicidal Tendencies after How will I Laugh album, but my buddies that preferred Anthrax and Metallica stayed with them through Lights Camera revolution, Art of Rebellion, etc.

Dead Milkmen?
Ours was the Chili Peppers.

This list caused me physical pain (though I can defend Blink). It hurts even more to realize these bands are now the elder statesmen of punk. Ouch. Liver spots.

But Good Charlotte sucks. I'm proud to have heckled them at a free show (I was there for Mary Prankster, who is awesome. I'm not in the habit of showing up to shows of bands I know I hate)

American Punk isn't clearly defined to begin:

Fugazi (first and foremost)
The Ramones
Black Flag
Bad Brains
Dead Kennedys

It's worse than what EMO did to 80's goth.
