--Phish could park outside my living room, play an hour long set of their most popular stuff (one song lasts an hour from what I understand...), then each one of them could kick me in the nuts and I would still not know them from Adam.

--I really don't begrudge people for the music they listen to on a regular basis. You like what you like.

HOWEVER,

--If you are over the age of 25 and you have never seriously ventured into the more "academic" genres like jazz/blues/classical/Standards, you are probably a pretty boring person.

--Most music made since 1995 sucks big donkey dicks.

--It's ok to like music that is popular. Really, it is. Sometimes the most talented singers and musicians are also really popular.

--sometimes, a three power chord headbanger or simple blues progression is just as moving and powerful as the most intricate song with multiple key changes and time signature changes.

--There has not been a good new-ish act on Saturday Night Live since Adele appeared in 2008.

--How in the frick does Kanye West have 21 Grammy Awards????????

+1

-Springsteen is overrated and watching him live makes me dislike him even more.

-I enjoy listening to John Mellencamp and 90's country

-I cannot get into any type of electronic music or anything with heavy synthesizers

Classic rock is over-rated

major labels usually ruin a band

Live shows with more than 1000 people present usually suck

drinking beer at concert ruins the concert

the 70s was one of the best decades for music

I'll try:

- AC/DC blows donkey dick and always has
- Lynyrd Skynyrd was/is amazingly overrated and it infuriates me when people try to associate them with The Allman Brothers/Little Feat/other awesome southern bands
- The Strokes... MEH
- There hasn't been vaguely decent mainstream country music since 70's Willie Nelson (this isn't that unpopular, I don't think)
- Stevie Ray Vaughan... MEH. I get that he was a great guitarist, I really do. There are about 234982347258 blues artists I'd listen to before him.
- Cat Stevens doesn't get 1/1000th of the credit he deserves
- Real Estate is one of the 5 best bands out there right now

respectfully disagree. son volt is boring and sounds exactly like it did 20 years ago.

99% of all red dirt/americana/"new country" is boring as hell.

So what you're saying is you have a tiny bladder and can't drink without getting blackout?

He was being sarcastic. Many, many, many people believe the 70's to be a great decade for music, and rightfully so.

Pretty much. But in general I prefer shows sober, or maybe just a little bit high. Just a little bit though. Adderral helps for the late shows.

Maybe its my age group but most people I know thought the 70s was a vast suckage for music. But the 80s, they love the 80s and basically I am not a big fan of the 80s.

People only hate Nirvana because they pretty much killed hair metal, and a majority of people have shitty taste and actually like Motley Crue.

KISS is only about separating idiots from their money, which is why they are so successful.

I hate EDM or whatever they call what we called electronica, but I at least appreciate that kids are trying to piss their parents off. Sure, it sucks, but I like the effort. Reject your parents' music.

Robert Plant ruined Led Zeppelin. If they had a competent lead singer, I'd like them a whole lot more.

Pop punk is an unfairly maligned subgenre. There's nothing wrong with singing fast, catchy songs about why you can't get girls. In fact, it's something more 18 year olds can relate to.

I know, I know. I don't like Sonic Youth. I've tried.

Gangsta rap, while great, had such a toxic and awful effect on hip hop, it would've been better for music in general had it never happened. The progeny of The Chronic is terrible. There used to be a bigger tent in rap for goofy acts. Even NWA made a few love songs.

Same thing with grunge. It would be worth not having Alice In Chains just to rid the world of Bush, Nickelback, and Candlebox.

While I think "authenticity" and "sell out" arguments in the 80/90s punk scene were excessive tedious and pointless, we could use some of that anti-corporate stance from younger bands. You know what? Some bands are shameless sellouts and should be ridiculed relentlessly for it.

People who steal music are assholes. People created art, and they should be paid for it. Your rationalizations are just that. You are thief and all you're doing is making it harder for people to make a living making music. You're the problem. Stop it, you selfish a-hole.
