Yeah, I tend to agree that if that was Joe Session Player, you'd never hear one word about it... sure it's a fine solo, but C'mon... It was about it being Prince..

And thats not to trash Prince, because he is obviously a very talented musician and I am a fan of his...

Yeah him and Glen didn't get along. Too bad. Take it to the limit was always my favorite Eagles song.

Uh, speaking as an actual bassist, Ben Shepard's bass lines are much more intricate and nuanced than any of Tim's. However Tim is great about finding the right groove and creating signature bass riffs, and is a true master of tone. But as far as individual chops, at least as far as what's displayed in their songs, Ben is much, much, much better than Tim man. Give Jesus Christ Pose a run through and see if that doesn't change your mind.
I can settle this:

Soundgarden is less than the sum of its parts. I imagine this mainly comes down to songwriting - just not that good.

Audioslave is also less than the sum of its parts. I remember seeing the announcement of a supergroup composed of half RATM and half Soundgarden...and the big, hot, hard-hitting 1st single was...Like a Stone...a plodding, low-energy dud.

So, the correct unpopular opinion is that both of these are decent but not great. You're welcome.

Have you listened to any of their other stuff:
Out of Exile
Revelations
Original Fire
Cochise

There’s a ton of high energy rock in Audioslave’s catelog.

The first album was my workout music in Iraq. He's obviously not heard Cochise, Gasoline, Set it off, etc., just off the first album.

Nine Inch Nails made terrible music. Nonsensical noise.

Meat Loaf is criminally overlooked as a performer and as a vocalist.

Most of George Harrison's Beatles tracks are awful; "Within You, Without You" and "Blue Jay Way" are the worst songs on their respective albums.

Jay-Z can't write or rap for shite.

On the flip side, George Harrison's solo career probably produced the best songs of any of the former members.

Bob Dylan only really even tried to sing on "Lay Lady Lay" (which was really good, I'll give it that) and then he just blew his nose on all the rest of his recordings.

I really like some Dylan songs, if someone else sings em.

SRV, my favorite musician of all-time, played better before he sobered up.

Still great, but to me, his early 80s stuff was his best playing.
