Yep, looks like it's The Capri. I just guessed Starfire because it had a star on the pick guard

What's the best way, to put a pick up in a resonator guitar?
I would like install a pick up that doesn't require a battery, that goes inside.

Go look at Thursday's post on the shop's Facebook page.

I don't have a facebook account, can I still look at it?
I was able to look, going through your yellow pages ad. That's a nice guitar. The one I'm buying today, is just one of the Fender laminated Mahogany ones. It's got a really good resonator sound though, and plays nice.

I have really been trying to learn more chords now that I have a little confidence.
Chords where I have to cover three positions on the fret board are tough on me. Even though I have fairly large hands, my fingers do not want to spread out.
C and F especially.
And my D chord is going to shite. For some reason, I am still having issues getting is clear. The high E string is kicking my arse.

Are you keeping your nails clipped really short? That D chord will really tell on you, if your nails get a tad too long. I have to clip mine just about every other day. Also, if your calluses are getting thick and have a groove wearing in them, it can cause a problem. You can use a nail file to smooth them down, or some sandpaper, or maybe you can just peel them off, if they have a little edge around them.
As far as the three fret thing, that's going to take a little time. Stretches and stuff will help.

You need a few finger stretching and finger independence exercises. Try this. Place your fingers on frets 1,2,3 and 4 of your string of choice. Next practice lifting 1 finger off at a time without lifting the others. From there progress to lifting 2 off at a time like fingers 1 and 3 and fingers 2 and 4. This sounds simple enough but it’s a monster exercise that will take serious concentration for a beginner. Once you gain some independence, you’ll be able to stretch further.

Thanks for all the info on my dad’s guitar guys. Once I get it in my hands I’ll be able to look for a serial number and contact Guild for more info. I did text my dad today and he said he got it in early 1969 which would make sense because he bought it before going to Vietnam.

It just takes time in the chair. That C will be one of the easiest Chords in your arsenal 1 day.
The F gives everyone trouble because of holding 2 strings down with 1 finger.
The D will be easy one day. When you get deep callus, it will be easier to fret the bottom strings.

I can actually do that one okay, it's the doggone F-barre that gives me the screaming fits - playing along nicely, then *STRNNNGHF* - DAMMIT! -

For everyone struggling with barre chords, I found the video I mentioned earlier in the thread.
Let Jesus show you how it’s done.

Went back to the bluegrass jam session at the Hi Ho in NOLA last night. Really a great event. I'm clearly the least talented so I pass when the breaks fall to me, but watching the others play is surprisingly more educational than I initially thought it would be. There are some insanely talented musicians and singers out there.

I will give that a try. Thanks for the help. I can get the C, its just not as easy as I thought.
And since we are talking about that, Between working on the things that my tutor is got me doing, I have been playing around with Wish You Were Here. Needed some fun to work on along with all the basic stuff. Its been a lot of fun. I can play the intro for the most part and most of the Chords that are in the chord structure
C,D,Am,G,D,C,Am,G
I believe they are in that sequence throughout the song in a 4 beat patter. (Im sure thats not the right verbiage)
So I decide to put the music on and try to play along instead of just playing by myself.
Holy shite. Yes, its faster than I am playing but I was shocked at how hard it was to just play the intro and when the solo starts to play and I am kinda in the back ground
Big surprise

Don't give up on exercises either. They're monotonous and a pain in the arse, but they do work if you give them enough time. You don't necessarily have to spend hours grinding away at exercises either. 10-15 mins a day will work.

Blizard, I apologize for not getting by Rick's shop yesterday, and showing him your photos. I had something come up, but I am going by there today, and will let you know what he says on your guitar.
I already know that he loves working on that kind of thing.

Yeah, that might be part of the problem he is having. His calluses are still on top, and not really pads yet.

I can remember that High E string leaving a groove on my finger. And hurting to where I would have to stop after 10 minutes + or - .
Now my Shoulder goes out before my fingers.

I have not built up a good one on my pinky yet and I had to basically stop practicing for a few weeks due to work. I was out of town a good bit and super busy.
I still kinda have girl fingers....

I think I have said it on here before, but taking Tylenol before you play, is a good way to keep the pain down without hindering your ability, like beer or something else does. It really works.
It just takes time and effort. It will all come together sooner than you think, as long as you keep after it.
Also, if you think you want to start building that callus on your pinky, a good time to do it, is when practicing that Dmaj chord. Use your pinky a little bit on that bottom e string on the 3rd fret. It's a G note and sounds good, thrown in there. On and off, on and off.

I never try to do that intro exactly right, I just kind of do it at my own speed and country it up a little, on the G,D,A strings . I hit a quick B and E note at the 2nd fret, then slide down on that D string to the 5th fret, play on The G,D,A strings between the 5th and 7th fret and the 7th and 9th, then walk on the A string to the 2nd fret and do a quick E minor, before I hit that C and go into the progression. It's just a little bit different, but still recognizable. I love playing that song though.
It's funny watching people's faces. They almost recognize it, they know it's something that they should know. You can see the gears in their head working, then when you hit that C and sing "soooo", they get it and smile. Everybody loves that song, even old people.
