Here's a video sample of the "Throwdown in Motown"

Phish 1997 is widely regarded as the best touring year by any band in the history of the galaxy, and this shows why

Could you recommend particular shows (perferably those available in SBD form)?

I've only got 5/9, 6/9, and of course 5/8/77 off the top of my head (not on my computer right now). 6/9/77 has my favorite Franklin's Tower

Everytime that Phish starts impressing the frick out of me Trey opens his fricking mouth and starts singing.

Phish is most likely the most talented and tightest band out there thats doing it right now. Yet there is something about Trey's voice that just annoys the frick out of me. I usually don't even care about the vocals, if the music is good (and phish's is of course top notch) thats all I need but for some reason I just can't get over Trey's voice.

Good thing they have 3 other stellar vocalists.

Page in particular is pretty good

anything from the first 2 weeks of may.

i like 5-4-77 from nyc, sick terrapin-->playin--->comes a time-->playin. i love the dancin in the streets from that show too.

5-22 is dicks pick 3.

5-28 was an official release called to terrapin.
bertha-->good lovin-->sugaree to open the show.

9-3 is dicks pick 15. only show of the summer because mickey broke his arm. i was about 10 miles away at the time, granted i was 1 month old, the show was in englishtown, nj. he's gone (my fav version ever)-->nfa-->truckin. beautiful.

12-29/30 was released as dicks pick 10. playin, china-->rider, china doll, playin jam-->drums-->nfa-->playin is sick.

that should get you started. also if anybody has itunes, subscribe to the deadpod podcast. he puts a new set up every friday.

What is the one Phish show you would recommend to someone who never listens to them to get them hooked?

You can run up on stage, but don't let Carini get ya, and don't, don't attack the drummer.

Thats not my focus, its my distraction. I love jam bands, I definitely "get it". I'll be jamming and grooving and then Trey starts singing and kills it for me and I'll be honest I'm not sure why. No Trey doesn't have a great voice but I listen to worse on a regular basis and enjoy it, there is just something about his voice that annoys the piss out of me.

Btw Soulja the tune you posted with Paige singing..... I could get behind that.

Thats a tough one. They are kind of a hard band to just dive into.

12.31.95 is a solid choice.

If you want the funk 12.7.97 is a good one, as wil the show this thread is about.
