Anyone want a post in here of the LP? Also as far as openers go, I'm not sure anything can touch the Riverport Gin

i was fortunate to have attended 12/6/97, and ever since then, i've been begging for it to get released! when they decided to play "antelope" as the second song of the evening, i had a feeling i was about to witness a heater of a show. back in '97, the "sexier" picks for great shows were always hampton & dayton, and auburn hills always seemed to get neglected....glad to see that over time, people started giving this show the love it deserves.

i've posted this on a few other sites, but here's an odd coincidence (but since we're talking about phish, maybe it was intentional? LOL)...12/6/97 was also the same night as the SEC championship game, featuring auburn vs. tennessee. so i thought it was odd that in AUBURN hills, they'd encore with the TENNESSEE fight/victory song "rocky top". i had taped the game with the intention of watching it after the show, but when they played "rocky top", i was certain someone told the band tennessee won the game & they made a musical statement about it, so i figured "why bother watching it now?" LOL....indeed, UT won 30-29...

yes, indeedily. being that i was in michigan/big ten country, i figured i could tape the game without anyone tipping me off about the score...hell, i figured no one even gave a shite, for that matter. so imagine my shock when phish, of all possibilities, would be the ones to spoil the outcome for me, heh...

it was probably just a coincidence, but the cynic & conspiracist in me was thinking "frick, phish just told me who won the game"

That is a great story. I love their rendition of Rocky Top. It is awesome that you were there for a legendary, easily top 5 show.

i've been fortunate to be present at a few historic shows in the "1.0" era, including halloween '96, hampton '97 & '98, the great went, and last but definitely not least big cypress Y2K. all special for their own reasons, but i always made a push for 12/6/97 to be recognized. glad to see it's become a reality.

nowadays, i can only squeeze in one show a year b/c different obligations now take center stage in my life, so i'm just happy to take what i can get....but man, back then those shows were a completely different beast.
