Oh... No joke I was actually scared it might be a Beach Boys tribute album by the Dave Mathews Band

I think Pet Sounds definitely holds up. I also think Good Vibrations belongs on that album.

Greatness on all levels. That is where the Beach Boys were at their best.

One of the most creative and innovative endeavors in popular music history. Even the Beatles were impressed with it and George Martin wondered what they could do to compete with it. Hence Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Hmmmmm . . . from someone who was and, to some extent, still is a Beach Boys fan, I kind of think people go a little too nuts over Pet Sounds. No doubt it was unique for its time and very influential. But, really, but for the elaborate production most of the songwriting was, imo, mundane . . . with, of course, a couple of exceptions.

Feel free to flame away.

I'd have to think about it. "God Only Knows" maybe.

ETA: Clearly, "Wouldn't It Be Nice" is a terrific pop song and a big hit. Maybe I'm being harsh. It could be that for some reason I drifted away from the Beach Boys or let their later embarrassing incarnations and performances taint my memory of them.

Wouldn't it be nice, Sloop John B, and God Only Knows are pretty much universally revered. I also really like You Still Believe in Me, I Just Wasn't Made for These Times, and Caroline No. Rock solid album imo.
