Periods of life remembered / measured by music.

I find that as I get older, I tend to look back on my younger years and remember those periods based off of what I was spinning at the time.
For example, I can tell you about three very significant relationships that changed me as a person and for each time of my life that they occupied I had an album that I practically had on repeat. I tend to do that with music. I binge hard on an album, sometimes for years!
Does that make any sense? Maybe I'm alone on this one.

Fell head over heels for a beautiful girl from South Mississippi. Had Jimmy Buffett's version of Biloxi and Jerry Jeff Walker's "Mississippi You're on my Mind" on repeat.

I feel the exact same way. Hearing a song that I used to love, instantly blasts me back into the past.

Highway 61 from baton rouge to Monroe when i was at lsu was endless repeats of this mortal coil... This was on the late 1980s so I always think of driving alone in my little Datsun pickup when I hear those albums.

Nope you are not alone. It is impossible for me to listen to Pet Sounds now because of a girl I wanted in high school. I had been introduced to the album that year. "I'm waiting for the day"

Freshman Year of College (aka post-big breakup): singer/songwriters, the Beatles, Wilco
Sophomore Year: Tower of Power, Earth Wind & Fire, Trombone Shorty, Irma Thomas, Dr. John
Junior Year: Rise Against, Foo Fighters, Zeppelin
Senior Year: Stevie Wonder, Iron Maiden, Jaco Pastorius, new country (not by choice)

Yeah, most 80's music makes me think of my best friend that died in car wreck in high school. If I'm in the right mood, certain songs make me weep like a teenage girl. Most of Whitney Houston's early stuff is like that because his mom loved her and was always listening to one of her tapes when she'd take us somewhere.
