Someone school me on Johnny Cash being rock and roll.
Cash was a part of the same early rock and roll era with Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc. The Memphis "rockabilly" style of music coming out of Sun Records in the mid to late 1950s.

While Cash's music was more towards the country end of the rockabilly spectrum, that entire group (Elvis, Jerry Lee, Carl Perkins, Cash) had a large influence on rock and roll music. They were as much a part of creating that early rock sound as was Buddy Holly.

It's a shame people don't recognize how much he given to the industry through production.

ELO all the way deserved as did YES. Jeff fricking Lynne.

I am not a fan of the rap being put in...I think Rap/Hip Hop/all the Herc influenced stuff belongs in its own Museum in The Bronx somewhere.

Agreed. Now let's see if Perry stops being a bitch and can do a couple of songs on stage on last time.

dude has a fricked up throat/voice. I read a statement where he said he sounded more like otis redding than steve perry now.

Asked if he was happy with his performance, he replies: "Well, I hadn’t sung in 20 years – I sounded more like Otis Redding than I did in Journey

Journey are excellent musicians and songwriters who have been so grossly overplayed that I can no longer stabd the sound of their music, much like the Eagles and Foreigner.

Journey was solid before Cain joined - even before Perry. Still enjoy the deep cuts on LPs before Cain. Cain's a wussy

Journey was just a branch of Santana upon inception (this is a good thing, not a complaint). They evolved into a top drawing arena rock band in the early 80s with a big guitar sound from Schon and big vocals from Steve Perry - the musicians in the 2 classic lineups (basically, Rolie vs. Cain on keys are the differences) were all great - I tend to agree with the criticism that Cain was a step back from Rolie in musicianship (keys and vocals), but he brought a songwriting sensibility for the new decade.

Nobody was listening to extended 19-minute long jams in 1983 (except at Grateful Dead concerts) - I know because I was there.

For me, Journey lost their heart and soul when Rolie left

They were the same band at that point, but with different songs - and, I didn't drill down to the actual announcement - obviously Pineda isn't inducted, but what about Rolie (and, Dunbar, for that matter)? I assume if Pineda is a no, then Castronovo and other folks that passed through (Randy Jackson, dawg) are also no.

Bout time Yes and ELO were inducted.

Tupac being in is a joke, but it's obvious they don't care if inductees are Rock or not.
