The greatest lazy rhyme ever:
Generals gathered in their masses,
Just like witches at black masses,
RIP to a literal one-of-a-kind
(If Ozzy can die, then so can all of us.)
I think Geezer wrote those lyrics... Ozzy wasn't a prolific lyric writer, one of the controversial things about him (because the bandmates who did write the lyrics and melodies for him, especially in the solo years, often didn't get credit)
But yes, RIP. Definitely a monumental figure.

I wasn't much of a metal guy, but he was one of the architects. RIP Oz.

Should have kept these lyrics. Not that they were Shakespeare but damn, hearing this in 69/70. Wow. Very creepy. That menacing voice. I like this version better.

Anyone go this show? Ozzy at Lakefront Arena, Halloween 1992.

My understanding is he had parkinsons
He did and it was progressively getting worse.
During his final performance, he was strapped into the bat throne chair with seatbelts that was built around an electric wheelchair. The biggest fear was Ozzy falling out of the chair. You could see Ozzy desperately wanting to get out of the chair and walk around the stage with Geezer and Tony. He only managed to sing 5 songs as his health and physical condition wouldn't allow him to perform a whole show.

My son just text me this news. A part of my youth has just been ripped away. One of the all time greatest is gone. Makes me very sad.

"How many times can they fill me with lies and I listen, again
Twisting the truth and they're playin' around with my head O.K.
The things they will do and the things they will say
When they don't really understand
Tears fill my eyes when I hear all the cries
For the reason today.
And they don't really know even what they're talkin' about
And I can't imagine what empty heads can achieve.
Leave me alone don't want your promises no more
'Cause rock'n'roll is my religion and my law
Won't ever change, they think it's strange
You can't kill rock'n'roll it's here to stay.
Looking through eyes of time mirrors reflecting their stories untrue
Promises promises, telling me all of my glories overdue.
How many times have I heard it before
And I'll probably hear it again
King of a thousand knights, pawn in a table fight
Losing to you.
Even the rhymes that they give me in times of confession ain't true
Outcome is obvious all for them none for us meaning you too.
The things they will do and the things they will say
When they don't really understand.
Fear of rejection I need their protection
I'm making a stand.
And they don't really know even what they're talkin' about
And I can't imagine what empty heads can achieve.
Leave me alone don't want your promises no more
'Cause rock'n'roll is my religion and my law
Won't ever change, they think it's strange

I remember driving home ffrom. or to my girlfriends house in an old POS vehicle at 17 years old..
A lot of the time late at night/early in the morning listening to the Paranoid cassette I got for $5 in a gas station years before.
Getting laid and stoned, and driving home on empty roads while the sun is about to come up as Planet Caravan blasts is part of a great coming of age soundtrack

Glad to see you and your braindead boomer takes made it here as well. Anyway...
Ozzy was a one of a kind. He did it his way, on his own terms, for better and more often worse. And Sharon made it all possible, despite her issues as well.
Crazy Train has to be an all time top 10 song across all genres to me. I watched the whole 10 and a half hour tribute show. Didn't even really consider he had planned it this way. Just kind of figure it was his last shot before hanging it up.
RIP to the godfather of heavy music.

I know the family came out and said he passed peacefully surrounded by family... but have the specified how/from what?
The reason I ask, and I hadn't heard this, but after seeing he died, one of my coworkers said he/Sharon had come out and mentioned they were looking at Physician assisted suicide in Sweden or something.

assisted suicide
Ozzy and Sharon did have a pact for assisted suicide if his neurological and physical condition became to much for the family to handle (mainly Sharon). In a recent interview, Ozzy confirmed he was dying and his Parkinson's disease was at stage 5 as he could only ambulate with a wheelchair or cane. He was diagnosed with PD in 2003 but didn't share it with the public until 2020.
Multiple back surgeries and a failed neck surgery that caused severe nerve damage eventually took it's toll. Here's an article from 2023 where Ozzy said he can't do it anymore..
IMO, I believe he held on as long as he could to do the Back to the Beginning farewell concert, and then chose to go out on his own terms - assisted suicide. The family will never admit to it but I truly believe he didn't want to live the rest of his life this way.

And here's the interview he talks about in the bit...
