Watch his performance on KEXP. He talks about it in-depth.

Little bit of a weird voice for that style of music, but not bad. I need to hear more.

You're right, there is a bit of that Chris Isaak/Roy Orbison sound. You see Chris Isaak at Jazz Fest on Sunday April 26.

He’s a character created by some gay Canadian punk rocker/ theater actor. Hard to really get into knowing it’s all a parody of sorts, but he does have a pretty cool sound.

Brings Early R.E.M. to mind for me for some reason. I like the guitar sound, not so crazy about the voice.

Can't imagine doing an interview like that, and needing, or even trying, to explain everything. Seems like artists want to be so cerebral anymore.
I would be like Dylan.. I'm just a song and dance man.

That is what I always said about Junior Brown, and I really like Junior Brown.

I liked him when I first discovered him but he isn't doing anything that new or interesting, except wearing a weird mask, so i quickly became bored with his schtick. I've debated going to see him and probably won't since it looks like its sold out.

hot take, but he's definitely a fresh take in modern non-mainstream country.

It's pretty much a straight Duane Eddy guitar sound with Roy Orbison, Chris Issack vocals. A lot of other bands have delved into that sound through the years. The Doors, The Ventures, The Animals, The Byrds but with psychedelic thrown in and early REM. There have been other hit songs over the years using that sound that I can't think of the Titles....maybe Kafka can post some.

Duane Eddy-Ghost riders in the Sky

I do like Orville because he reminds me of all those old bands.

I mean, no one has really done this sound in decades and done it this creatively. The crooner spaghetti western style with indie rock influence.

no one has remotely done what he’s doing on a creative level in the genre. His album is all over the place when it comes to influences.

Man, I got some stuff I need to throw out there, that I thought was too over the top.

Baritone guitar, real Chris Isaak, Elvis and Roy Orbison vocal styling and bridges, I thought I was trying to sound too sexy for my overalls , and was too uncomfortable about it...if I had a mask though..
Not joking. Proud of myself and stunned that it sounded so good, but then thinking "this don't fit my scarred up country arse" Still got the masters.
Problem is, if a singer doesn't think that they can outdo the original, they wont touch it.
