I'm sure this is an untapped subject, but what's the music board's opinion on Seal? Crazy is a phenomenal song.

Quick, name 2 other Seal songs....

He made two good songs, has weird facial scars and was married for a while to a hot, crazy whore.

That 1991 album had an all-star studio musician lineup and is so, so cool and vibey jazzy funky. People hate on him, but I've always loved it.

Never really listened to him much, but those 2 or 3 songs of his from the early 90's are very nostalgic.

I only know his batman soundtrack song

I like a lot of his songs. He is extremely underrated in terms of 90's soul/r&b artists. He was by far the best of the bunch just from a songwriting perspective.

I'm a little shocked
I came in here assuming every comment would be about Kiss from a Rose
I've never heard "Crazy" in my life

His first album is amazing in my book. I listened to it a lot when it came out and will occasionally throw it on to bring me back to those days. It might be the perfect come down CD.
The 2nd one is still good but Kiss from a Rose became so overplayed it became unbearable. Never got into his Human Being album because of this. But IV returns to his first album and is pretty good.
After that, I haven't even listened much to his stuff.

wow! I am watching a youtube video of kiss by a rose right now and came to see if anyone had commented on him.
weird.
He doesn't get talked about a lot but his voice is really good.

Seal has a much better catalogue than people realize and I think he gets a lot of casual hate from people that never really listened to what he was actually doing. Seal 1994 is one of the most flawlessly produced records of it's era. I could listen to it forever-it is kind of a production -values standard for me. Trevor Horn absolutely got the best album out of Seal. That album is a melodic masterpiece, there are more vocal hooks on that album than almost any solo album of it's time. It really stands up 25 years later.
The 1998 follow up, also produced by Trevor Horn, was a brooding and darker album that got better with each listen. It's definitely worth a listen. But not the pop brilliance of Seal's second and certainly not the sunny hooks of his first album.
After that it's kind of hit or miss for me.

It really is especially the Prayer for Dying, Metaphors, Don't Cry tracks one after the other.

The songs are well produced and he has a good voice. Talented dude. But there’s no emotion behind any of it. It just kinda is what it is in my opinion.

When I was in the sound business, this was one of the albums we tuned our PAs to. Flawlessly recorded.
