Out today. This album is fantastic, possible album of the year contender for me. Any fans of 70s style prog who have never listened to Opeth need to check this out. There's no death metal growls or anything too heavy if that sort of thing scares you off. No songs are over 10 minutes so its fairly accessible for new listeners. There's two versions, one in English and one in Swedish. Hard to pick a standout track because there's several but I'll go with Next of Kin. Highly recommended for you rock is dead people too.

Yep getting it tomorrow! Looking forward to it! Big Opeth fan seen them a few times! In my early 60's and my son's think I'm nuts. Friend sent me message today and said it dropped.

I've listened all the way through once. Good album but I think it's the last Opeth album I buy on release day. It's just not the Opeth I fell in love with and it's obvious that band is never coming back.

If you've seen any interviews with Mikael in the last few years, its obvious he is done with death metal. I think this is the heaviest of their prog albums though.

It is their heaviest which is why I had such high hopes. I don't necessarily miss the death metal and I like prog but there is no goosebump inducing moments in Opeth anymore.

Loving it so far. I find myself listening to the Swedish version after trying out both. Knowing it was written in Swedish, I tend to think it's the more authentic version.

Iberia, re: goosebumps, I strongly encourage you to put on a pair of headphones and listen to “Lovelorn Crime” (#5) on the new album. Spectacular stuff.

I listened to it on my home stereo with 350 watts per channel. If that couldn’t get my attention, I’m not sure headphones will. Good album but it doesn’t grip me like Opeth should. Universal Truth is the best of the album IMO.

It's been that way for like 15 years now unfortunately.

I just read an interview with Akerfeldt in Decibel magazine - he said he's definitely moved on from the death metal growl vocals except for playing their old stuff live. I haven't gotten into them much over the years (crazy that they've been around 30 years now) but I plan to check it out.

Just stumbled across a bonus track which apparently is from the Decibel magazine release. Why isn't the rest of the album like this? Opeth - Cirkelns Riktning (In Cauda Venenum B-Side)

I heard that the other day and thought it was great. Maybe Decibel just asked for an exclusive song. Can't understand why else it didn't make the album.

It's kinda crazy that I always wanted them to give up the growling and just do rock or acoustic stuff like Damnation, but now that they've given up the growling, and are sort of doing what I hoped for, I'm not super interested any more. Maybe I've just changed.
