It's the cool band to make fun of, but there's no reason anyone would hate Nickelback and enjoy the Foo Fighters. They are essentially the same band.

I think I'd rather listen to Nickelback. The Foo Fighters irritate the shite out of me.

See the entire Foo Fighters discography for a proper definition. At least Nickelback knew when to take a step back. Dave Grohl continues to pump out cringe.

People liked their first couple songs when they came out.
Every song they made for the next 20 years sounded exactly the same as those earlier ones.
It got really really old, and they were really overplayed.

I just had to go back and look, and you're correct. It's hard to believe that Nickleback has been around for 20 years already.

I think a lot of the hate seems to come because of the singer who definitely seems kind of a douche

I'm no musical genius but I like whatever songs that are enjoyable. It is a case of every person has a taste of music that they like just like in a taste for food or cars or anything else in my eyes. The weird thing to me is that a band like Nickelback sells 50 million records worldwide, still are doing arena tours and doing pretty well yet still has every person say they are garbage. Hmmm

I relate this to Creed every time as they were at their peek at the same time, sold about the same amount of albums yet get the same treatment. It's funny that you take the whole band of Creed ( Tremonti, Marshall and Phillips) replace Stapp with Kennedy and all of the sudden everyone loves them. I realize Stapp wrote alot of those Creed songs but still. If it's a song you like and whatever who cares. Just my 2 cents!

What it means is that the internet, media, and social media does not really reflect most people. What typically happens is that someone makes a charismatic rant on the internet or tv that others mimic and copy, and it becomes the "cool" opinion to have. Those who care about having "cool" opinions pretty much only associate with others in that same group and consume the same media, so pretty soon, a consensus emerges that everyone clearly hates x uncool thing.

With Creed, it had everything to do with Scott Stapp's behavior off stage. He claimed to be a Christian, which got all of the petty internet atheists already against him, but then he acted like such a hypocritical douche that it got everyone else to hate him. Those who claim they hate Creed's music yet love Alterbridge, don't really hate Creed's sound, they hate Stapp, and knowing what a douche he is, can no longer appreciate his voice.

Nickelback was that 40 something, rocker-milf-on-the-rebound band back in 2004.

I know virtually nothing about these bands. The fascinating thing to me is that no matter what happens in a Nickelback thread, inevitably someone will bring up Creed.

I can at least get some cheap laughs from Nickelback's music.

Then that makes since. That's akin to saying "Phish and Widespread panic must be terrible because I don't know anyone who listens to them." While all of your friends only listen to bro country. If you're not around jam band people, you're not going to know many people into jam bands. We all have our little bubbles.
