This one hits hard. Going to be honest - not ready to deal with it yet.

First one to really hit me. Rush was kind of the soundtrack of my youth. I respected Pearl a lot for his lyrics, and he hated celebrity.

My father works in the business. Folks close to him have known for almost two years. He was obviously a very private man. His playing speaks for itself and will hopefully continue to inspire legions of young musicians

Yeah this really sucks arse. Huge loss. RIP to one of the greatest ever. Hope he was able to find some peace somehow later on in life and that he was able to be kept comfortable toward the end.

“can you play rush” was a rite of passage for a generation or more of teenaged rock bands. I don’t know anyone my age that wasn’t obsessed with rush as young teens

And I was a (not very good) drummer back in the day - which is a double whammy for someone into rock music and is in that 50 to 55 age range.

Still stunned over this. RUSH will always be my favorite rock band. Was lucky enough to see them 9 times. Every one of them a great musical experience. And Neil was a great writer in addition to being the GOAT drummer. RIP Neil, and thanks for the music.

Yep. This one hit my brother really hard. He's a huge Rush fan and a good friend of his manages a golf course that Rush loved to play at. It started with them playing incognito before concerts and they got to know my brother's friend who took care of them after that. Weird fact but Rush loved to golf before big concerts and nobody knew who they were on the course.

Peart was an amazing drummer.

Check out this old jam session from Stewart Copeland's studio. It features Peart and Carey on drums, Copeland on guitar, and a surprise Matt Stone from South Park appearance. LINK

RIP Mr. Peart - You’ll now be playing drums at the great gig in the sky...forever.
