Okay, so I am santa this year for my two sorta-step kids.

One is five and the other 7. I know they like a lot of popular music and know one direction and all. But what is good to put on their ipods from Santa?

I was looking to give them each like 2gb of music to start.

I brought them to a basketball game last week and was surprised by the songs they knew. Their mom listens to country with them and Disney songs and stuff.

Since its from Santa it should have the music the kids like now.

Scandanavian Death metal.
They will thank you later.
In your sleep, with a knife.

Seriously, at that age, I plyed mine with a lot of Beatles/McCartney/easier pop cuts from my old school collection.

It paid off-they are all either musicians/ or obsessed with music like their Pops.

They would enjoy some Black Crippled Phoenix.

There is a kids dinosaur metal band from Finland called Hevisaurus and they are awesome. Picture a band full of Barneys playing kids themed metal. They even have a Christmas song LINK

Weird Al. Kids love that stuff.

Beatles. Stick to the poppy sing-a-long stuff from the early albums.

But if you're looking for straight-up children's music, here's three albums I enjoy singing along to (as a 26 year old)

Keller Williams - Kids
Medeski, Martin & Wood - Let's Go Everywhere

Jack Johnson - Sing-A-Longs & Lullabies For The Film Curious George

Videos (one song from each of the above albums)
Keller Williams - My Neighbor Is Happy Again
Medeski, Martin & Wood - Let's Go Everywhere
Jack Johnson - Upside Down

OK, so I will just find radio edits of current pop music.

Maybe some early beatles too. (I'm a late beatles fan)

Lime in the Coconut-Nilson and Yellow Submarine Beatles and Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey pAUL mCcARTNEY-are three your kids will LOVE. Every kid loves those songs and they can learn some really decent song structure.

What kids love is songs that contain certain words and phrases that let them build word pictures in their head. And a good melody brings it alive for them.
