This was a good thread idea and I really wanted to participate but I was too flustered to continue after reading this.
There is so much wrong in these two paragraphs, I don't even know where to begin.

Ill admit I love all the new folksy stuff like the Lumineers even though they are pretty mediocre bands and cheesy

I guess Green Day. Early stuff was fun pseudo punk rock that I thought was really good teen ager type music. They really went to shite later imo. Sublime was another good one mentioned, but I don't even occasionally listen to their stuff anymore. These two are really moreso nostalgia picks for me.
