Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing LIVE (Alchemy, 1983)
My nomination. EN FUEGO.
Several reaction shots of the band suggest even they knew this performance was something special.

(Time Stamp: 10:14)
Last reaction shot:
As the band is winding down the tune, Knopfler and the rhythm guitarist give each other a mutual glance of satisfaction, realizing how incredibly special this number was. (Knopfler was usually not an overly expressive performer).
Keyboardist was hopping around throughout 'Sultans' like a happy little kid (had some "help"? OR, just a natural high?)
Sultan's may not even be the best tune by Dire Straits but...Youtube consensus seems to concur -- this specific number was something extraordinarily special.

Alchemy Live - Dire Straits is an amazing live recording, especially when listening on a quality sound system. I received the 2-CD set (along with Psycho Killer Live - Talking Heads) as a Christmas gift in 1985 from a former GF and still listen to them both today.
Disc One
1. Once Upon a Time in the West
2. Expresso Love
3. Romeo and Juliet
4. Love over Gold
5. Private Investigations
6. Sultans of Swing
Disc two
1. Two Young Lovers
2. Tunnel of Love
3. Telegraph Road
4. Solid Rock
5. Going Home

Was that still Pick Withers on drums? It looks like him, but I thought he left the band before that.

Anything you find from Heart in 1976. Here's one.

Still have my double vinyl albums. Great album
Terry Williams had replaced Pick Withers by this time. Williams was pretty bad arse on that video

Last observation on this performance: Tell-Tale time-stamp of max synchronicity:
Time Stamp 8:12
Bass player and rhythm guitarist Alan Clark & Hal Lindes are as one, jamming side-by-side; Kopfler, seemingly inspired by his bandmates' joy gets totally immersed and does a "chicken-neck twirl" as the crescendo peaks. Love seeing a band that tight and cutting loose, really enjoying themselves. Good stuff.

I think Pick left the year before ('82)

Yup, Heart was kicking it back then. Good performance -- Ann and Nancy were always on. Keyboardist also played guitar. (Though Roger Fisher did struggle a bit during his last featured solo).
Heart's 1977 Midnight Special performance (to me) seemed as much in sync as I've ever seen from them. Fisher's guitar work is immaculate.

You are correct, sir.
Yeah -- Terry Williams was a monstah here and really set the tone early on. (If you watch the 1985 Wembley version of Sultans, Wiliams low-keyed the drums in comparison to the '83 Alchemy version.)
Wembley, Sultans of Swing, 1985
Differences that I see in the two (besides Williams' restrained drums):
- Sax was added (meh)
- One the '85 version, Knopfler's brother replaced Lindes on rhythm (Lindes seemed instrumental the '83 in-sync Sultans chemistry.)
- '85 was excellent but the tempo slower and not as driven. Lightning struck was confirmed in '83.

Wasn't John Illsley(sp) the bassist?

Double live album without a single studio overdub anywhere on it. Damn rare occurrence for an official record label non-Grateful Dead vault release. Only other one I know of for sure is Van Morrison's It's Too Late To Stop Now.

I'll nominate The Beatles rooftop performance.
2 years of not performing, composing songs in 30 days and performing on the roof, all looking at each other, knowing it's a special performance
