He can sing. But their songwriting was crap by the time that he joined the band. I didn't know until the other day that he sang Fooled Around and Fell In Love, even though it should have been obvious, I guess.

Always just assumed that Elvin Bishop was singing it.

I'd cite the Stone Temple Pilots drafting some guy named "Jeff Gutt" to front the band after Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington passed away.

"Jeff Gutt" isn't a rock star's name, it's the name of the guy who changes the oil in your old beater.

Well he's a good candidate, but if Eddie had had his way in 1985, we would have had for sure the most bizarre/worst replacement singer in history with Patty Smyth. It's no knock on her, but a female singer in Van Halen made no sense.

quote:

They were heavy drinkers. I don’t drink. I never saw myself living in LA. I was like, “I’m from New York, we don’t move to LA.”

It’s all semantics because if [Eddie] had said to me, “Let’s make a record,” then I would have said yes to that. But joining the band — to me then, “Oh god, they fight all the time, him and his brother, and I don’t want to get into a volatile situation.” But I regretted turning him down. For a long time I regretted it. When you start to have regrets, I was like, “Oh man I would’ve made so much money.”

Maybe JD Fortune with INXS after Rockstar:INXS? I thought several of the other candidates were better.

I thought Gary Cherone was a decent choice. That album just wasn’t very good. And not because of the vocal.

Strange reasons yes, but for a replacement choice no.

Tim can do Halford better than Halford - he is an incredible singer.

Arnel is decent. I wish they would have kept Jeff Scott Soto as the lead singer.

They also offered Cetera's slot to Richard Page (bassist & singer of Mr. Mister) but went with Jason Scheff after Page turned it down
