The fact that nobody has mentioned Tosin Abasi here yet is a crime.

Dude's incredible. For starters, I don't think my fingers would even reach all the way across that fretboard.

He has basically reinvented how to play the guitar. Other people have done similar things but nothing to his extent. If I were to try and play some of his songs I would need to buy an 8 string guitar and completely relearn the instrument.

There are modern day virtuosos like Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Eric Johnson but Tosin is an entirely different world. He's still pretty young, too, so there's more coming from him.

The stuff that Meshuggah puts out is pretty insane in terms of musicianship. I can't say I really enjoy listening to it very often, but they're definitely pushing the envelope.

I think Dan Auerbach a musical genius. Consider the breadth and quality of all of his different projects and his work as a producer.

Just checked out 2 songs-Kingdom and Deadhead. Definitely legit. Thanks for this

Man... if you want to enjoy literally months of new music to explore.... go down the Devin Townsend rabbit hole. TONS of albums and music.

The most varied modern rock/metal musician as well. He has albums in the last 15 years that are proggy, poppy, hardcore metal, country-ish, and even a STUNNING ambient soft album (Ghost).

One of the most prolific artists on planet and that is not an exaggeration. Writes multiple complex albums at a time.

If you like Kingdom, check out these next few songs. And if still on board? Just dive into it all....

Higher
True North
Stormbender
Addicted!
Grace

Those 5 songs right there are no doubters...

Nobody's mentioned Warren Haynes yet?

Good call. The thing I like about Warren is how many different styles he can play. I think he could literally fit into any band playing any style of music. He's a musical chameleon.

Speaking of which, I'm going to see Dark Side of the Mule in Sept. at Red Rocks. Haven't seen Mule in several years so I'm really looking forward to it.
