Wonder how much James and Lars personally take home after 1 show.

they only play one or two US shows a year.
They played a ton of US shows when death magnetic came out and will do the same when the new one is out.

Metallica box office was $217 million for last world tour.

They are pretty much only playing arenas in America to promote a new album. They love playing big festivals in Europe & other countries because the fan zest is still there outside of America. I hate to say it but Europe, Asian, & South American audiences are so much more into metal than Americans now. The crowds at shows in those countries are beyond rabid. Just ask the bands. It used to be that way in America in the 70's through the 90s but not anymore. Hip hop, rap, & EDM have taken over this country. Everyone is too busy taking selfies at shows & not actually getting into the music. It is sad.

Iron Maiden just sold out all their US shows. Metallica can sell out any arena in the country and charge $75-$100 a ticket. The festivals they do play here are stuff like Bonnaroo and Voodoo, not exactly their target audience. The US rock festivals can't afford them. This is all about money.

They lost about 25 million or so on the movie they did "Through the Never". No need to feel sorry for them as they are ok. They just take big paychecks from overseas festivals & one off gigs here in America to make ends meet & sell a ton of merchandise on their website. They will be back next year for an arena tour of the states when they release the new album. Metallica & Maiden sell out everywhere in America. Bands like that can & always will until they stop playing. It is the new hard rock-metal bands that have come out after that late 90's to today that can't draw big & keep the metal fire going. Say what you want about them but Avenged Sevenfold is about the only metal-hard rock band(I will not count the Foo Fighters or Nickelback-ugh) that has come out in the last 20 years that can sell out arenas or come close by themselves in America. Tool does too but I don't consider them true metal. That is a problem.

Damn Metallica, AS and Volbeat is a fantastic lineup.
I've seen Metallica four times - first time at the Houston stop of their 2003 Summer Sanitarium tour (w/ Deftones, Linkin Park, Mudvayne, Limp Bizkit), twice in the Nola Arena, and most recently at Voodoo.
They're always great but Summer Sanitarium and the Nola show with Godsmack were amazing.

Volbeat's singer has a really annoying voice
He's one you either really like or hate. I really like it, but can completely understand why someone wouldn't like it.
I think their stuff is pretty refreshing. The songs are unique, and I like that they aren't just doing the normal themes of metal. They love the wild west and their songs are about it. Something different that is refreshing.

Just got two tickets to this show. Only thing I hate about Metallica shows is the fricking price tag. $340 total for 2 reserved tickets fairly close to the stage. I've been waiting since 2004 to see these guys again.

Its a shame they're so greedy,
So since they're 50+ and have families and lives now, they are "greedy" for not wanting to constantly tour? That's an odd interpretation.

Metallica toured with Korn, Powerman 5000, System of a Down and Kid Rock back in the day. Great show, except James didn't perform in Dallas and the other singers sung Metallica songs in his place. Actually was pretty awesome, I wish we had smart phones then.
One of my first concerts was Metallica and GNR..

Not a big A7X fan, but Volbeat and Metallica would be awesome live in a huge stadium like that. Missed out on the stadium tours of Metallica when I was a kid

How can you say Volbeat is shite?
I'm confused, I've seen Volbeat live twice - once when they were touring with 5FDP and I left after their set to go to the casinos, where they showed up 30 minutes after.

I think Rock on the Range could book them if they were interested - they just sold out Columbus Crew stadium for 3 days with RHCP, Lamb of God, Deftones, Megadeth, Disturbed, Rob Zombie, Ghost, Shinedown, 5FDP, Shinedown, HellYeah, etc. I was thinking of going this year but had to do a hard pass as I may be changing jobs this fall. It's on my to-do list next year though.
SiriusXM has basically brought that festival under its wing as the #1 US hard rock fest - they're going to be broadcasting the event live this year and have all sorts of stuff backstage for the Octane channel.
