Is it OK to think it was a shitty dirtbag thing to do by MJK (if true), but simultaneously think it's a bit opportunistic to wait 18 years before dropping the bomb?

Not to mention...unless someone is reading straight from a diary entry that was written immediately after the event, I'd have to think after 18 years, that person's emotions may have manifested to a different level, whether it's her or anyone else recalling a story from so long ago.

Long story short: MJK should get what's coming to him if it happened, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the timing of this...

This is the terribly slippery slope to try to navigate and it is in my opinion a massive problem with the #metoo movement.

No one wants to victim shame, and true forced rape is one of the most heinous things a human being can do.

But some of these stories seriously muddy the waters and border on baseless accusation.

I do not know where you draw the line and I do not pretend to know how to prove or disprove consent, but a vocal or physical no seems like it must be necessary especially in this situation with this set of facts:

Admittedly was not drunk or high
Willingly left the concert and her boyfriend
Willingly went backstage alone
Willingly stayed back stage alone
Willingly met and hung out alone with Maynard
Willingly stayed longer than she thought normal
Willingly got on a tour bus alone with Keenan
Willingly went to the bedroom of the tour bus alone
Willingly sat on the bed with him
Willingly stayed while he took his and her pants off.

And then they had sex and she says she never said no or tried to stop him but she was raped and goes even further to makes an assertion that he did it to purposefully rape her.

To compare that set of facts to someone who is attacked and forceably raped against their clear lack of consent is almost insulting to rape victims. And her assertion that Keenan is an active and knowing rapist is extremely troubling. What evidence does she have that he's a forceable racist?

Is it not possible that she just had and awkward sexual encounter with Keenan who is a reclusive and shy weirdo and once he met a girl who talked to him for a while and went to his bus and got on his bed and let him take her and his pants off they just had awkward sex?

I do not know the solution to this issue but it needs close examination and it needs reason and a clear head. It is true that no one wants to victim shame, but we shouldn't immediately believe all accusers and condemn the accused either.

This is a true story from my teen years:

I dated a girl when I was 17 and she was 16. She gets a speeding ticket from BRPD (a black cop named Frank) but...he offers to fix it for her if she agrees to meet him at his apt. in Baker at such and such a date.
She tells me about his proposal, and I don't even have to talk her out of meeting him. She laughed, "Like I would frick this guy over a speeding ticket."

She was 16. This was 1989.

Am I the only one that laughed over going to a tour bus with the lead singer of a major band after a concert to 'watch a movie'

If so, thats uncommonly stupid. Even for 17. We start telling kids at 4 or 5 yrs old not to get in cars with strangers. 12 years later it shouldnt be expecting too much that they connect the fricking dots and not get on a tour bus with the lead singer of Tool after a show

Getting into the car with a complete stranger is not at all the same. Kids, even high school kids do incredibly stupid things. Case in point, the Tide Pod challenge. I'm sure you also tell your kids not to put laundry detergent in their mouth...
