Marlboro Martin. Ran across one of these yesterday, first one I've ever actually seen...

These guitars were available from The Marlboro Country Store in the early 90s. You purchased them with Marlboro Miles off of Marlboro cigarette packs and they are a close copy of a Martin D-28.
They don't have any serial number, labels or markings of any kind.
The original owner has it for sale and it's in great shape for it's age and sounds and plays great, even has a decent case with it. $200.00.
Would you buy it?
It's kind of a neat piece of history and a good player.

Someone smoked a lot of cigarettes to earn that thing.

He was still smoking Marlboros too, in a black pack. Wonder he's still around.
Kind of surprised the guitar doesn't smell like smoke, but he says he doesn't really play.

It's a shame they didn't have the Marlboro logo on them.

I know absolutely dick about guitars, but I did Google the Martin model you mentioned. Most are going for $2-3K. Also, I obtained a leather shaving bag from that Marlboro Store back then, and I’m still using it. The quality was far beyond what I expected. My point, if that translates, $200 is one helluva deal.

Yeah, the real Martins go for that, but these are just copies and don't bring anything close to that. Nobody even knows who actually made them.
It is a well built guitar though.
The rumor used to be that they were built from Martin B-stock woods, I don't believe that though.
My brother got some camping gear from them and we used it a lot, it was good stuff.
I have a cowboy trail cookbook that came from them and I still use some recipes out of it. Steak and beans, wild onion biscuits, whiskey chili and stuff like that.

Considering China wasn't really in the mass production American export acoustic game in the 90s, my money is they are ghost-builds by Samick/Korea.

No way that neck is Martin B-stock mahogany, it looks more like nato, a common Asian budget mahogany species used primarily for affordable furniture. That leads me to suspect both the soundboard and the box are laminates and not imported from Nazareth for the production run.

Comp Samicks and Samick ghost-builds from that era are $125-$300 guitars, the latter being the rare exceptions in regard to features and condition.

I guess the story behind them being a limited run promotional item for a company is worth a few dollars more for storytellers. One or two thousand dollars more? I'll be kind and just say best of luck finding that buyer.

Yeah, not expecting anything like that. I'll probably just keep it for a beat around guitar It's a good player with a decent case with a bit of a story.
I think $200.00 for it is a decent deal. I'll probably put a pickup in it.

If it’s $200 and you like it?

There are dumber ways to spend $200 bucks.

That’s what I told the wife when I bought an amp.

HIJACK!!!!!!!’

Saw Fret was here. About my new toy a Fender Mustang GTX100. Anybody can really answer.

A. I love this thing. What are you guys thoughts. It is much better than the previous. And that’s just in sound. The fact that it is all blue tooth now is just a huge bonus.

B. How long will I enjoy my new toy before Fender does away with the “Tone” platform? So we can all buy new shite. Kind of like Apple.

What thing are you talking about?

I assume you're talking about a little modeler rig. I recently bought one of the Boss Katana headphone amps and absolutely love it. I can literally stand around in my office or bedroom and rock the frick out without bothering anyone.

I'm still waiting for Boss to release their tone-sharing tool.
